And now we will jump your throat for *not* including Gollum's fly-song.

I see Dom Monaghan performs on RotK...oooh, another drinking-song! Hmmm...maybe no throat-jumping! Rather on-desk-hopping!

Christian

PS: Post 800! Yuppee!

I wonder which version of the drinking song it will be: the theatrical version, or the EE version where Pippin falters when he looks at Gandalf and starts thinking about the Palantir.

You know, the cast performance I really missed from the TTT:CR was Bernard Hill. Granted, it was a recitation, not sung, but it would have been absolutely so incredible to have that included.

And yes, Incanus was right about what I meant about track titles. They don't mean that much in and of themselves, but it is fun to speculate what music will reside under that title, and also getting the track titles is another milestone along the way to getting the CD, a little something to look forward to prior to the real deal.

And after track titles, don't forget track times! I love getting track times. Is that strange?

No, that's not strange! I must admit I have an affection for track times as well. You can then really start to imagine all the musical scenes coming together. Can't wait!

I doubt they'd interrupt the music; it just wouldn't flow well on CD form.

And I love the fact that LOTR takes advantage of the fact that it IS a film rather than just a story from a book and gives us these wonderful poetic montages (like "Where is the Horse and the Rider?") with great choral passages and so much emotion.

Yes! We get the drinking song! Now I only have two more questions about the CR: how much, and give it to me

Like one of the earlier posters (Marian Schedenig I think?), I have not listened to the RotK soundtrack since well before the FotR CR came out. I did the same for TTT and it was great to rediscover the themes that I had played constantly when it was originally released.

I have some memories of pieces like the lighting of the beacons and shelob's lair and I've been tempted to play them over the last few months. But I've held off. If anyone is interested I'd suggest going on a RotK diet over the next few weeks - it's easy now that we have 6 hours of score already.

All the best,
ruckus

Don't hold your breath for sound samples until two weeks before actual release.
Follow the pattern of TTT ...

But maybe Doug will do a podcast with some samples like last year!

There never were track times on any of the CDs, neither OST nor CR. Don't go expecting them this time...

But this is the last release.Maybe they will do smth special this time.

What if they'll give us most of the important infos about the CR on Friday, only to hold back the juiciest surprizes that shroud ROTK:CR:a statue of Howard Shore(it could be nice),an Alan Lee breath-taking painting of...musical notes(for example) in elvish characters(on the box set),an autograph from Doug Adams perhaps, a singing Pippin doll or a hobbit-size flute.

My point is, that this time they(who are they anyway?) could reveal to us what we expect ,much earlier, just to prepare e real feast for D-Day.Cool.

indeed! There haven't been many podcasts lately from Film Score Monthly. Can we expect any coming up Doug? A ROTK CR focused one would sound about right!

I doubt there'll be anything on Friday, except maybe a post from Doug gushing over the great music and finishing with "sorry, can't tell you"

But seriously, early October sounds more like it.

I think the question is - "what are the dates they call Fall"? Should we suppose November as Fall or winter? Doug, what we're really waiting for is a mind-blowing one-word "tomorrow" post

September 7th - deadline for the final booklet! So, Doug, how many words do we get??

I've seen The Last Mimzy yesterday (still love the score!) and there were two teenage-girls sitting in the row in front of me.
During the Credits, one asked the other: 'Howard Shore? Isn't that the guy who scored the Lord of the Rings?'
Answer: 'Nah, the Lord of the Rings score was composed by JOHN WILLIAMS'
Of course, I told her she was wrong, but she didn't believe me and insisted: 'The score ist so brilliant, it HAS to be John-Williams-Music!!'
Another guy joined our argument and told us, he was pretty sure it wasn't John Williams, but 'another unknown guy' *ouch* but not Shore, it was 'a rather long unpronounceable name', so he couldn't rememeber it... *sigh*. Though they were quite convincing, I'm still *pretty* sure, that it was Maestro Shore

This is the reason we all should carry a LotR soundtrack album with us at all times. Thus we can just point at the name on the cover to prove to the ignorant and less informed who actually has composed these wonderful scores!

Man, I would be speechless if I had to hear someone say that the beauty that is The Lord of the Rings music wasn't composed by Howard Shore. Talk about a knife to the chest.

This reminds me of a conversation I had at Universal Studios a couple of years ago.

Annoying woman: Why are you in LA?
Me: I'm here for a John Williams concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
Annoying woman: Oh! You mean the guitar player?
Me: No. The film composer. Star Wars, Indiana Jones etc.
Annoying woman: Aren't they the same person?
Me: No, they're definitely not.
Annoying woman: Are you sure? I think they are.
Me: No, they're definitely not.
Annoying woman: You're wrong! I'm positive that they're the same person!
Me: <exasperated sigh>

AP News Flash

Freiburg i. Br., Germany -

Earlier this evening, police were forced to break-up a fight that had broken out when some ignorant 14-year olds attributed Howard Shore's music for the Lord of the Rings films to famous German composer Hans Zimmer. The teen had unwittingly made the remark in front of a local well-known fan of Shore's Ring music, who corrected him on his mistake. The teen and his friends maintain, however, that nobody but Hans Zimmer could have written such "awesomely great" music with "those deep drums and choir shouting in Latin". When the LotR fan produced a copy of the soundtrack, with the name Howard Shore written clearly on it, the teenagers said nobody can write such great film music. In fact, there were no composers beside Hans Zimmer!

The LotR fan exploded at this astoudingly dim-witted comment and beat the teens through the streets of Freiburg with a metal chain to the 5/4 rhythm of Howard Shore's testified "awesomely great music."

end news flash

Well,FOTR:CR's press release was on the 16th of September with a release date on November 22nd,postponed to December 13th.
TTT:CR had the press release on September 12th with a release date on November 7.
So,FOTR:CR was released 88 days(67 initially) after the press release and TTT:CR after 56 days.Considering the fact that the time between the press release date and the actual release day shrank,we will probably have to wait less time for the ROTK release after the press release;maybe somewhere around 40 days. But we'll now this anyway in a few days time i suspect.

Regarding this,i think that the press release might also take place earlier than last year;in the next 3-4 days perhaps. If so, we will have ROTK:CR somewhere between the 17th-20th of October.

With the idea that PR's should take place on tuedays just as well as the actual release, the 11th sounds like a great day for a PR (Hint Hint Doug )But for ROTK to be released in mid-late October, I could only hope for that to happen.

'The Return of the King' is on the horizon and while we are waiting for the press release, there's a new video:

it's from the theatrical cut ... I think Howard Shore never scored the extended scene.

Yeah, with the frenetic music in the scene it's a bit much... but I'm glad he originally composed the cue, so the chilling murder has a musical representation befitting its groundings and impact.
