Well on the subject of track titles, why don't we have a little game until Doug comes back to save us all from our agony, by predicting or suggesting our personal choices for track titles.

Here are my predictions/personal choices for the beginning tracks:

    1) Smeagol and Deagol or The History of the Ring

    2) The Days are Growing Darker

    3) Longbottem Leaf or The Fellowship Arrives at Isenguard

CD4...mmmmm. Somehow I had forgotten that this one is an extra disc long. Delicious.

This last Complete Recordings will have hell of a long track list. 4 Discs! It has to be at least 60 tracks! So that is quite job for Doug and Mr. Shore and all those involved in creating those titles.

Christian your tracktitles were inspired. One track title to describe one whole CD is just ingenious not to mention economic! And we all do know what happens in the film by the music alone so it is just as well. This should be proposed to Doug immediately.

Strider, I would have to say that's even more torturous. I wouldn't be able to bear listening to only half a soundtrack and not be able to finish it.

As for the tracks, referring to the DVD menus is always a good bet:

Track 1: The Finding of the Ring
Track 2: Journey to the Cross-roads/The Days Are Growing Darker
Track 3: The Voice of Saruman
    Track 4: Return to Edoras
    Track 5: Gollum's Villainy
    Track 6: The Palantir
Track 7: Arwen's Vision (but how AWESOME would it be if they named it Eldarion??)
Track 8: The Reforging of Narsil
Track 9: The Decline of Gondor
Track 10: "The Deep Breath Before the Plunge"
Track 11: The Witch-king of Angmar
    Track 12: Osgiliath Invaded
Track 13: The Lighting of the Beacons
    Track 14: Theoden's Decision/"And Rohan Will Answer"
Track 15: The Fall of Osgiliath
Track 16: The Stairs of Cirith Ungol
Track 17: Allegiance to Denethor/"Strength of a Different Kind"/Faramir's Strength
Track 18: The Parting of Sam and Frodo
Track 19: The Sacrifice of Faramir
Track 20: Marshalling at Dunharrow/Dunharrow/Flame of the West
    Track 21: "No More Despair"
    Track 22: Dwimorberg/Isildur's Heir
Track 23: The Muster of Rohan
Track 24: The Paths of the Dead/The King of the Dead
Track 25: The Siege of Gondor
Track 26: The Corsairs of Umbar
Track 27: "Naughty Little Fly"/Gollum's Treachery
Track 28: Grond/Breaking the Gate of Gondor
Track 29: The Choices of Master Samwise
    Track 30: Denethor's Madness/The Hour of the Witch-king
Track 31: The Battle of the Pelennor Fields
    Track 32: "A Far Green Country"/"White Shores"
Track 33: The Nazgul and His Prey/The Fall of the Witch-king/"I Am No Man"
Track 34: The Black Ships/The Army of the Dead/Victory at Minas Tirith
Track 35: The Houses of Healing
Track 36: The Tower of Cirith Ungol
Track 37: The Last Debate/"Hope For Frodo"
Track 38: The Land of Shadow
Track 39: The Mouth of Sauron
    Track 40: "I Can't Carry It for You ... But I Can Carry You"/The Last Move/Mount Doom
Track 41: "The Eagles Are Coming!"/The Crack of Doom
Track 42: Sauron Defeated/The End of All Things
Track 43: The Fellowship Reunited/Aragorn's Coronation
Track 44: Homeward Bound/Return to the Shire
Track 45: The Last Ship/"The End of the Fellowship"/"The Dominion of Men"
Track 46: "What Can You See on the Horizon?"/The Journey Ends

Those were made off the top of my head at midnight, but I feel I condensed it too much.

Yeah, I just need something else to occupy my mind for a while. I don't think those are too condensed; I think a lot of the scenes will be connected...

Oh, we'd better get Merry & Pippin's drinking song, or I'm gonna be upset...

I totally agree - the track list will be quite close to the SE DVD chapter menu. Does anybody remember why do we name the "Bilbo's song" that unreleased credits piece? Was it really intended to be named like that?
All right, and who have the best Photoshop skills to present us the fake ROTK CR covers? I'm pretty sure that Aragorn will be the face of this box.

Yeah, the end credits do list it as "Bilbo's Last Song".

On the track titles, I have a feeling "The Passing of the Grey Company" and "Shelob's Lair" will be used as well

I remember seeing a music sheet titled "The Passing of the Grey Company" on Howard Shore's desk, and he was still writing the music at the time. No, not in real life, but on DVD

I suppose track titles from the OST won't be allowed, even though a track might be the same; such as "Foundations of Stone" from the OST and "Glamdring" from the CR. Those are the same track right? Or are there small differences? So for "Return of the King" and "Grey Havens" on the ROTK OST they will have to come up with new names for the CR I suppose. I guess "The Undying Lands" would be a good substitute for "Grey Havens". Maybe for "Return of the King" they could use "The Fellowship Reunited" from the DVD chapter.

We call it "Bilbo's Song" because Doug calls it "Bilbo's Song"

PS: I think those people have to deal with bigger problems than coming up with track titles

Quite right gkgyver As Doug has enlightened us along the way compiling these sets is not exactly a one night job. As we are talking about a huge amount of music and so many other considerations it is a huge effort. I have no idea how much music the creative team has had to sift through to find all the necessary materials but it must be an astounding amount. But this process has revealed also some hidden gems such as alternates and unused concepts so their efforts are not in vain

I am also extremely happy that Mr. Shore is involved in the process and is part of the team. This ensures that the composer's original intent and vision are preserved and his involvement offers a deep insight to the music itself.

P.S. Track titles are perhaps not the most difficult part of creating these exhaustive sets but it sure gives us something to speculate on We have to kill time before the RotK release somehow.

Not exactly CR related but, exciting Hobbit news!
    http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=23203

With Jackson directing I can only assume Mr. Shore would score!

A Hobbit score from Shore would obviously be amazing to look forward too! And then of course a CR must follow as well!

Good news! So PJ still has a chance to do the film. We can all keep waiting and hoping for the actual confirmation that PJ will indeed direct the movie. In that case we have another wonderful score to wait from Mr. Shore. And the LotR phenomenon goes on for a few years more

Well, it seems as the moment of doom approaches (when New Line's option on the Hobbit film from Saul Zaentz runs out -- I think at the end of this year?) NL is beginning to see the green light (as in greenbacks) at the end of their private tunnel at Minas Morgul...

Now, I wonder if PJ is at all interested in dealing with Shaye & Co???

My guess is, NO! He has been stalling until that option runs out, I've been wagering, and as NL feels the pinch from their having pinched the cast and director of LotR they are becoming more and more concilatory, or so they think... but methinks it will do them no good. Their plucked chickens are coming home to roost! (I wonder if PJ will call his street in NZ Shaye's End instead of Sharkey's End???)

    Salient points:
    1) ultimate control lies with Zaentz, not NL or PJ... and NL's option (from Z) on Tolkien movies is allegedly running out...
    2) There is too much moola to be made for there not to be a Hobbit movie...
    3) PJ has a huge fan following after LotR that will increase the moola to be made
    4) PJ wants complete artistic and financial control (so Shaye's "involved in some way" will be totally unattractive to PJ... so evidently Shaye still has not seen enough green light!!!! His job is on the line at New Line (if he blows this)... does he realize that?) NL is apparently in real $$$ trouble... can they afford a bully like Shaye (who has alienated their greatest $$$ making director, PJ)???
    Conclusion:
The Hobbit will be made by PJ only... because Z will let the NL option run out, turn it over to PJ and NL/Shaye will learn it doesn't pay to shortchange your biggest moneymaker!

In any case, if Raimi directs and PJ produces, that will leave out NL!! And remember it is producers who really call the shots in movie making so PJ, with his experience and pull, will indeed be in control... Is Raimi capable of taking direction as well as giving it????

Remember, in Hollywood (or Wellywood) $$$$$ RULE!

    Here endeth my predictions...

In sum: PJ WILL do the Hobbit movie(s) without NL or Shaye and it will be a smash blockbuster...

For once, $$$, good art and justice seem to be all lined up in a row!!

Hi Jim! Those are pretty cool videos, especially the one with the unused Gandalf The White music.
Actually, I've done my own isolated score with the entire TTT movie, and maybe you could tell me how to upload some vids to YouTube?
How long can they be, and how big? Because I actually re-edited the flooding of Isengard and Frodo's scenes in Osgiliath, so that it fits the original version of "Theoden Rides Forth", and I'd really like to put that up.

Great videos Jim! It is fascinating to see where this music belongs to and how it fits the pictures (really well of course ). Doug has shed light on many of those scenes and why the music was dropped in his excellent notes on the scores but these presentations let us (= the less technically proficient who can't make them ourselves) to see how the scenes would play out with the music intact. Thank you
