I don't want to start the old Horner debate all over again, so I thought I'd ask this little question here instead of creating a new thread:

I know that the theme that can first be heard in the second track on the Willow album is from Schumann's 3rd symphony.

One of the best themes in the score is that "glorious rising" theme (for lack of a better description). I don't know what it resembles, as I haven't seen the film, and I can't tell you where it can be heard in the scores right now, because I'm playing another disc at the moment. Anyway, I hope you know which theme I mean.

This theme has always sounded to me as if it was not composed by Horner. It sounds very much like Richard Strauss, and in fact, there's a passage in Death and Transfiguration (which I'm just listening to) where you can nearly hear the theme - not prominently though, and it's not used anywhere else in the rest of the work.

So, can anyone clear this up, and tell me if and where this theme comes from?

Again, I don't want this to turn into another Horner-bashing episode, it's just that this has been nagging me for months.

    THAT'S PAGE 39, MARIAN!

Just to bring everybody up to speed, the current topic is "Interesting Things To Do With Animal Feces"

    Discuss.

(I'd try to answer your Horner question Marian, except you didn't mention the title of the movie score...)

If it's Schummann Marian is talking about, I think he means Willow. I'm not familiar with "Death and Transfiguration," though, so I can't comment. My favorite Horner score is still "Jumanji."

As for intersting things to do with feces ... well, last semester here at MSU, they "manured" the grass with *ahem* Human Waste in anticipation of a quick snowfall. Well, guess what didn't happen?

Those were some looooooong walks to class ...

Got this one from Bob Dole ...

President Harry Truman was well-known for his country roots and his simple way of speaking. One day, while addressing the Ladies Society at a garden event, he made several references to the importance of "good manure."

The ladies pulled Bess Truman aside. "Couldn't you possibly persuade him to say fertilizer instead?" they asked.

Bess laughed. "Are you joking? It took me 25 years to get him to say manure!"

(I wonder if this joke is too subtle.)

Yeah, it's Willow, of course, and page THIRTHY-nine. Must have been too tired when writing the two messages. It's corrected now. Wedge, Death and Transfiguration is great!

QUESTION: What do you do when it's the night before a 10-page paper "to demonstrate your grasp of some aspect of contemporary media and culture" is due tomorrow?

ANSWER: Why write about film music, of course! Ten pages? Have it done in ten minutes! Why didn't I think of this before? And for supplemental media, I can include a CD-R featuring reference samples!

The topic: how does "ownership" of music affect the film scoring process?

    James Horner is GOIN' DOWN!!

LOL! You'd better had written a 10-page begging letter to John Williams, to change his mind and score Harry Potter. Sorry, but I'm really angry about this. I never felt sorry that he isn't doing the third Jurassic Park, but I had such high hopes for this score. Grrrrr.

    Dear MovieMusic Friends

I have been summoned from the grave to urge you to push this thread to the 2000 mark.

In these troubled times of electoral upheaval, we need to place our faith in solid things; things like this thread.

Ask not what this thread can do for you, but ask what you can do for this thread.

Now um, where does a man get a little action around here? and where did this hole in my head come from?

    Your truly,
    John F Kennedy
