There is only one word for this soundtrack: wow. This was so much better then I anticipated. It's so much fun to listen too. It reminds me a lot of Gladiator soundtrack, which is really good because that's a favourite of mine. Everytime I finish listening to Pirates of the Caribbean, I want to start it again. This is definitely going to be one of the best of the year.

Trying, throughout the five times I've seen the film, to define Badelt's (and Zimmer's) musical antecedents. Not John Williams, though there are passing nods to him. Not Jerry Goldsmith, the cinema great. Finally heard the soundtrack CD and it is immediately obvious that much of this is derivative (not in a bad way) of Aaron Copland -- one of my personal faves. Same heavy dependence on 3/4 time (and 6/8 in a couple places). Same kind of "native" and rural influences. Same reliance on the "bottom" (double-bass, timpany, trombone). Yeah, I definitely like it!

I love the film... saw it three times. The soundtrack added immeasurably to the film. Some have taken issue with the fact that the PotC score didn't include any traditional "pirate" music, but I think that is a specious criticism. I was actually impressed that the composer didn't fall back on the traditional but created a "new" type of pirate music, if you will, by using themes and styles which fit the situation and action. My only very slight complaint is the score's almost relentless action tempi. One barely has a moment to breathe while listening to the soundtrack.... Verbinski could have trimmed at least 20 mins. from the film and it would have been even better. But I quibble. Needless to say, I've played it so many times already that I probably hum it in my sleep! I think it's a great soundtrack and can't wait for the film to come out on DVD!!!

When I was waiting in line to see this movie at 10:30 at night, I could har the awesome and relentless action music of this swashbuckling adventure. I was so excited I couldn't wait to see the movie. Throughout the film, I noticed strikingly similar action music that compared with Hans Zimmer's Muppet Treasure Island. If you loved that music, then definitely pick this one up!

The score is appropriate for the movie, an is an easy piece to analyze (at the second semester freshman year level, or first year sophomre level in college theory). Many times the piece is a waltz in 3/4... other times it is in 3/8 with the emphasis on the first beat, and super fast. The harmonic progressions are repetitive with various melodies and tempos applied to the same chord progressions over and over, usually in D minor... this score is in F at times or uses the parallel key of D minor... occasionally it is indeed in 4, but the melodic themes are repeated in various tempos over and over or orchestrated differently for a more romantic or military feel, or priratey feel. But overall it is fun... and a wonderful interpretation of harmonic and rhythmic function to suit this film.

The movie was absolutely tremendous and the score was even better! The track, "Underwater March" is incredible! This song plays while Barbosa's crew is marching towards the British ship underwater. The entire score is incredible, I LOVE the music in this movie!

Excellent score. Hans Zimmer's (composer of the previously mentioned Drop Zone music played in the trailer, also Badelt's mentor) influence is heard, and some of the themes resemble certain cues from Gladiator, another Zimmer score. All in all, however, a 5-star score if I've ever heard one. This is the score of the summer to go with the movie of the summer.

While critics were skeptical upon the arrival of the film, the box office and excellent job of the team of Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinski, and Walt Disney Pictures sure shut them down. And to further put their foot in there mouth, the music team of Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer gave the film an excellent touch of heroic, demonic, and romantic tracks. We even hear touches of the baroque period somehow figured in as part of the time period of the film. This score rivals if not surpasses the works of John Williams, and reignites the images of this five star film in every song. My greatest congratulations to Klaus Badelt and my highest recommendation for the purchase of the CD. Five stars and beyond....Drink up me hardy's Yo Ho!!

This score by Klaus Badelt and company is, in my opinion, a bad pirate movie score. Too many synths for my taste. Too typical Media Ventures "hero music" for my ears. Alan Silvestri probably composed a better score, unfortunately rejected. Zimmer is Zimmer and Silvestri is Silvestri (in terms of selling CDs). Sorry Alan. I give 1 star to this effort because it is better than Klaus Badelt's K-19.

AMAZING score to go with an incredible movie! When I saw the movie, I was just awestruck by the loud and very fitting music (among other things) that carries the story from beginning to end. Most scores for films are simply backdrops to the movie itself, but this score IS the movie and vice versa. Everything in the movie was awesome. Best movie and best soundtrack of the year I say!

As for the soundtrack, the music just added an awesome feeling to the movie. It fit perfectly and is fun to listen to on its own, whereas some movie soundtracks, that can't be done.

This is one of the best scores of all time. The heroic music is perfect and has the right piratey theme and the music for Barbossa's crew really captures the insanity of what's going on. The music for the fights is awesome and the tune is still stuck in my head from the first time I saw the movie. I love it!

Man I loved when Jack first arrived on the docks!! That music was so awesome!! I mean, I actually paid attention to what was happening the whole time! Great track, I'll definitely buy this one. The music compliments the movie very well, sometimes adding a sophisticated comic feeling within its epicness!

I love this soundtrack. The music is strong and stirring - it made me feel as if I was right there with Johnny Depp, swashbuckling by his side. This music is inspiring with plenty of punch. I feel Klaus Dadelt captured the essence of the movie, making the music dark when necessary, soft when needed and gutsy at the right moments. This is a soundtrack that I use to get me motivated and has become a "do not remove" item from my car.

This soundtrack is just as good as I was hoping it would be. Klaus Badelt did and excellent job bringing out the feeling and excitement in this movie. I really like track 3 cause it is pretty much the theme of the movie. This music really excites me and I hope to be hearing lots more great soundtracks from Klaus Badelt.

A lot of people find similarities between this score and Zimmer's score of Gladiator, but I want to throw in another composer here: Wojciech Kilar, the guy who did the soundtrack to Bram Stoker's Dracula. Track 2 on that soundtrack is almost identical to the music that was played in the earliest trailer for Pirates and also I believe during the scene where you first see Barbossa's men in the moonlight. Someone check it out!

Nobody appears to have mentioned that Klaus Badelt actually composed some of the Gladiator soundtrack; some of the most brilliant music on the Gladiator score is courtesy of Mr. Badelt. He has certainly done himself proud with this OST, which outstrips The Time Machine (an incredible score) 10 to 1. Perfect music for an outstandingly good fun film.

When I first saw Pirates of the Caribbean, as I was walking out of the theater, the first thing I thought was "I'm getting that soundtrack." It's incredible; like the movie is fused to the songs, in my mind. I didn't think it was possible to beat out either of the Lord of the Rings soundtacks, but this hella did.

I find it somewhat funny that everyone compares this soundtrack to Gladiator as being almost identical. I have both soundtacks and have listened to them back to back. Besides the sheer volume of the music I can find no real similarities between these scores. But the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack is amazing! Some great themes!

I watched the movie after I heard all my friends talking about it, and I have to say I DO NOT REGRET IT!!! I thought it would be the typical pirate movie, but instead I got the perfect blend of action, comedy (gotta love Jack!) and romance. I'm a music major and tend to judge a movie by the OST - I was TOTALLY blown away by Klaus Badelt's score! I walked out of that movie hall in love with the music as well as the movie. I absolutely HAD to buy the CD. Unfortunately the store was sold out and I now have dibs on the first shipment in! The music brought me to the edge, it was a wonderful mix of swashbuckling action and romance. I think I even heard some baroque in it (fits with the time era). Kudos to all who contributed to the soundtrack - the movie would not have been the same without it!

I've only seen the movie, and I can't wait to buy the soundtrack because the score is great. Really good action music by Klaus Badelt with a lot of good percussion and powerful tracks. If you haven't heard it, it sounds very similar to the Drop Zone music played in the trailer.

The score for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean is a double edged sword. In one respect it's everything you'd expect from a big blockbuster/Media Ventures summer movie score. On the other hand it does leave something to be desired. I am a large a fan of the film and the themes Badelt creates are quite memorable. The album is just fun action music... what else is there to expect? No, most of my quarrels lie with the mastering and mixing of the CD. In true Media Ventures format, it's a lot of loud treble, not a whole lot of bass, which is unfortunate. Many of the tracks are so loud that it's hard to pick out the distinct parts. Beyond that I'd say this soundtrack is definitely worth a listen. Good stuff, even if the recording is a little funny....

Seems form wins over content... highly repetitive score, a rehash of Gladiator... a cut-and-paste of several Hans Zimmer scores... only louder. Guess this score, given its sales figures, will unfortunately shape the soundtracks of many films to come... too bad for originality and creativity... replaced by synth rhythms and thunderous bumpy music. Noise wins after all.

I absolutely loved this soundtrack. It's right up there with the Gladiator soundtrack and the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon soundtrack. I thought to myself on the way out of the theater, "I have to get this soundtrack!" Did anyone else notice how during the swordfights, the chinks of the blades making contact went along in time to the music? Now that is excellent cinema.

Hey, I'm sure I am not the only person who noticed that the score to this film was like a two-hour version of a phrase in the "Battle" track from Hans Zimmer's Gladiator soundtrack. I loved the movie and enjoyed the soundtrack, but I kept getting distracted by the nagging fact that Badelt just blatently stole Zimmer's musical style for this film.

AMAZING!! I love loud, brassy, percussive soundtracks. Like others, I thought it reminiscent of Aaron Copland and Gladiator - two of my faves. It's the time signature that does it. NOT 3/4 or 6/8 BUT 6/4 with variations in beat divisions/groupings, which also occurs in Gladiator. But again, a brilliant score for a brilliant movie.

This is one of the best soundtracks of this year. While it doesn't surpass Gladiator, it is still an extremely action-packed score with "He's a Pirate" getting my vote for best track. Quick mention to m077122: Klaus Badelt was a co-composer on the Gladiator soundtrack and wrote music for "The Battle" scene, making this style of music his style.

I am obsessed, this music is awesome! I saw the movie four times, and besides drooling over Orlando, I also noticed how spirited and active the score was. I went out straight away and bought the CD. This music is great listening at any time, you just pop it in and the songs change so smoothly. It is especially hard to pick favorites, all of the tracks are so lively, yet they all have a different theme to them. This music was also incredibly original, I've never quite heard anything like it. I think it goes perfectly with the movie's setting. The movie and the soundtrack are sure to be somne of the best this year.

The score ushers in a new era of pirate songs. As we have hummed "yo-ho-ho" for the past century, the theme for this movie will still be remembered for years to come. The track that particularly interested me was "He's a Pirate." Albeit a short track, the theme is fun, adventurous, and most importantly, a stuck-in-your-head kind of theme that you can listen to over and over again without getting bored of. The rest of the score was good as well, but the score was too short for my liking. There is more than 45 min of music in a 150+ minute film. Nonetheless, a enjoyable score.

The music adds excitement and emotion throughout the film and although most of the music is based around very similar themes, the intense "action" sequences are bought to life by this music. My favourite track is "Moonlight Serenade" as it contains all the themes rolled into one. It starts off with soothing slow string melodies and then builds up to the fighting themes, which uses a heavy bass instruments and timpani to bring it alive. "He's a Pirate" is another one of my favourites.

This soundtrack is amazing to listen to as well as to play. I play the french horn in our city's symphony orchestra and we recently played this score for our concert. Not only was it entertaining to play, but we received a standing ovation for the excitement! I give this soundtrack 5 stars because of its continuous action and adventure, you can never be bored. Klaus Badelt did a wonderful job composing this score. A big thanks to him for providing the best music for the best movie. I personally don't think the movie would have done that great without the music. But then again... Johnny Depp won the Golden Globe for his excellent portrayal of Capt. Jack Sparrow! He's a great actor! Love ya Depp!!!!

I have enjoyed movie soundtracks for a long time and am very familiar with them. This soundtrack is one of the best I have ever heard. Despite the fact that Klaus Badelt is credited as the composer, it is very obvious that Hans Zimmer had a hand in this music. Some of the themes used are so characteristic of Zimmer that it almost made me think he had scored the movie. This soundtrack in particular is upbeat and fun to listen to. I can sit down and listen to the entire CD without getting bored. It is a rare soundtrack that can do that. Most soundtracks have their good and bad moments, but this one is amazing all the way to the end. I could go on forever with more details, but I hope this helps.

This is an awesome soundtrack! I love it! Let me tell you, there's nothing like cranking up pirate music in the middle of traffic, looking over at other people with their hip-hop and rap cranked up... It's awesome! After reading above comments saying how this sounds like the Gladiator soundtrack, I may have to buy that one too. I have the movie, and I love it, but my passion for soundtracks started after the last time I watched it, so I forget how the music sounds. Hmm... I love soundtracks....

How to review this soundtrack in just one word? Excellent. Or, amazing. Take your pick. Even from just watching the film I knew the soundtrack would be SOMETHING, and after listening to it I just realized how beautiful it is. When you listen to each of the tracks you feel the excitement that only really good music can give to you. You can feel the action and the thrill, can feel the romance, the adventure. It's something that absolutely reaches into your bones, and it's unbelieveably amazing! This soundtrack comes very highly recommended. This is the bottom line. You definitely should hear it.

First of all, this is one hell of an action-packed score, from track 1 to 15... very nice and very mood-influencing. If you are tired or feeling down, listen to this and you will be awake and full of energy within 2 tracks.

Second of all, the melody! Badelt uses one or two melodies in 200 ways. If you like the melody, you will like the score. From slow and soft to speedy and loud with (of course) a lot of bass drums and violins.

Some people say this is a Hans Zimmer rip-off. Well, Zimmer co-produced so of course there's some Zimmer style here. In my opinion, this is not a bad thing.

This music is also used in a lot of shows on television or commercials, and it's nice to hear people (who never listen to scores) say "that's a cool tune.".

Conclusion: I like this one very much... it's almost the most powerful score I ever heard. If you like action scores a la Hans Zimmer, get this one right now!

It's been almost two years already since the movie's release and still I enjoy listening to the CD over and over.

The tracks are simply amazing and truly portrays authentic pirate material. It ranges from smooth enjoyable melodies to intense and heavy symphonies that really pump you up.

This album is truly a masterpiece.

An awesome CD to listen to! I love it. I've always liked music that sounds like some kind of big mission or quest, and this is extremely that kind. My favorite track is "He's a Pirate." This is the one song you hear in almost every seen in the move. I STRONGLY recommend this CD to any fans of this kind of music, even if you haven't seen this movie!

Wow, certainly. Perhaps stunning. I grin each time I listen to it. Compelling and hypnotic. I may get tired of listening to this someday but after 10 times now I still need to hear again. Wow.

For all those who say this music is similar to Zimmer's work on the Gladiator soundtrack, Zimmer assisted in the making of this awesome musical score. Badelt and Zimmer have worked together on many soundtracks and they do a really good job. I love this soundtrack! It fits in well with my movie soundtrack collection and is a joy to listen to!

It's good.... Forget this analytical stuff on whether it's a waltz or what have you. The bottom line is the movie was good, the CD is good. BUY IT!!

Ok, in reading through all the reviews some many have said this score sounds like Gladiator (which it does) and some have accused Badelt of ripping off Zimmer. Actually, if you'll read the credits for Gladiator, you'll notice that Badelt is credited with a fair amount of additional music for that movie, so he's not ripping off anybody. Zimmer was his mentor, so naturally he's going to sound a lot like him. And thank goodness for that! It wouldn't bother me if there were a lot more action/adventure scores like Pirates. Super score for a super movie. Can't wait for Zimmer's scores to Pirates 2 and 3. Hopefully more of the same!

This music is awesome! I enjoy classical music, and I've never heard anything like this before. I'm a violinist who plays in my local Youth Symphony and we're playing these for our next concert. I love playing the songs. They are so addicting!

This is one of the best scores written for an action film. As another reviewer said, it has shades of Gladiator, but composer Klaus Badelt has also established himself as a capable film score composer. Track 2 has a magnificent line that sounds like it could have been featured in Ridley Scott's 2000 masterpiece, but Track 10 has to be the best, with its fast-paced strings and percussion penetrating the score as Elizabeth escapes from the hands of Barbossa - into the hands of a living-dead crew of ghostly skeletons that walk the decks of the Black Pearl. I was so impressed when I saw the film, two years after its release in theaters, that I had to get this soundtrack. Exciting!

This is an incredibly fun score to listen to. Not the best musically, but as for entertainment value, it's an A+. To me, it's original because of the lack of instrumentation, such as woodwinds and lengthy violin phrases. I love the single clarinet solo in tr. 13 (or 14?), and I think I heard a flute play a triplet somewhere. I also hear an english horn, maybe? The use of the viola and cello/bass is great; a nice reprieve from the overdone violin. The bass trombone is always loud and incredibly audible, something that's quite rare, especially in that magnitude. The synthesizers are fun to hear, and are placed nicely, though they sometime cover the band. The percussion makes a great beat, but the cymbals are a bit overdone, and sound distorted. When I finish listening to it, I just have to go back and listen to it again!

I love this movie and the music. Johnny Depp is hilarious as Captain Jack. My favorite track is fifteen but all of the songs are well done and make me laugh because I can picture the scene in my mind. :) This is a great movie and soundtrack.

This is seriously one of the best soundtracks ever realeased. Though it contains all of perhaps 4 or 5 themes (quite few for a project as large as it is) it's phenomenal. Every track has percussive drive, harmonic interplay, aural tension and climatic moments that make you want to jump up and shout. Every song carries with it something orriginal and powerful, whether it be the shadowy dread of "Swords Crossed," the suspensful drive of "Barbosa is Hungry," the emotion of "One Last Shot" or the phenomenal aural power of the epic "He's a Pirate." I as a professional musician can safely say that this is among the best works of music ever produced and should not be passed up by any person.
