by Ken S on 7/27/2001 favorite track: 17 I just say that if John Williams would have included his wonderful "End Title" music to this soundtrack album, I'd give all five stars to this wonderful movie music score. Although the beautiful themes are surpassed only by Williams's classic E.T., this Hook soundtrack really "sweeps you to your own personal Neverland," as Steven Spielberg says in the liner notes.
...If only there would be the "End Title" music..!
by sugarbabie264 on 6/28/2001 favorite track: 15 OMG, this is the best soundtrack EVER. My whole life would be different without it.
by grapilgrim on 11/24/2001 favorite track: 1 This is an amazing listening experience. The music is filled with magic and wonder. Just close your eyes and fly away!
by shikimato on 11/25/2001 favorite track: 14 There isn't a night I don't listen to this masterpiece. I have no words. This is the best soundtrack EVER; just listen and imagine.
by LukasLau on 1/7/2003 favorite track: 15 I'm a really BIG fan of the movie and the music is one important part of it. It's like being in a dream world while listening to this masterpiece. I really cannot describe the feelings I have when I listen to the music. You have to see it for yourself. You'll feel like being part of the movie, like you're Pan yourself... It's wonderful... That's all I can say :-) Try it
by j007whit on 3/28/2003 favorite track: 14 The critcally acclaimed composer John Williams has written many scores, mostly for the films of Steven Spielberg. Hook is a Steven Spielberg movie, which is great and all, but it would be nothing without a John Williams score. This is his best, his most professionally crafted, beautifully composed masterpeice. The music is unforgettable, and at times you will find yourself whistling the tracks (I did). His music is totally immersed and has plenty of depth in emotion, in characters, and in the scenes. The main theme is robust and grand, as you can clearly picture Peter Pan flying across the skies of Never-land or the the notorious Hook and his right man, Smee, planning their next action. The soundtrack is a must-have.
by tonygriffin on 4/14/2003 favorite track: 13 When all my mates were into the jam & madness, etc, I was listening to The Fury, Jaws and Cinderella Liberty (which I still have on vinyl!). So I suppose you could call me a Williams nut and I wouldn't be offended. It's impossible to name an all-time favorite 'Johnny' score, but Hook would be close. Even though Spielberg never really got to make the film he wanted to, the score could change anyone's opinion on movie music (I know it does... my friends I referred to earlier all love this score!). Ok so it hasn't got the end credit music. It does have the truly fantastic 10 minute "Remembering Childhood," a tune that's up there with "For Gillian" from The Fury, the love theme from Superman or even "ET & Me"!!. The other comments are right, it's easy to listen to the whole CD start to finish and have the best 74 minutes you can have.
by elleyden on 10/3/2003 favorite track: 16 I just watched Disney's Hook and fell in love with it. I watched the movie many times in my childhood, and now after not seeing it after 7 years, watching it again filled my head with "happy thoughts." Thus I made my decision to buy an awesome soundtrack to an awesome movie.
by robye5555 on 10/10/2003 favorite track: 13 This is the best and most under-rated movie score ever! John Williams has done it again! A must-have! Ok, now that I've made it sound divine, I can actually describe its splendor. Starting with the first track, this soundtrack sweeps you away to a world where dreams can come true. The CD does lack a few tracks, for example Pan and Hook's fight and Pan and Rufio's fight. The Hook theme is dominant in the movie, but is only majorly heard on CD one time. The ending of "Remembering Childhood" is the BEST part of the whole score!!! The last time I listened to it I almost cried! It really is a masterpiece. "The Never-Feast," probably the most infamous part of the movie, is a wonderful piece portraying the no worries attitude of the Lost Boys. "You are the Pan" really shows the depth Williams was willing to go. It is a remarkably emotional piece. Overall this is my third favorite soundtrack!(1, Titanic, 2, The Empire Strikes Back). The missing music really needs to be released, especially the end credits. I LOVE THIS SCORE!!!
by lfcvivas on 10/29/2003 An excellent score, full of details and charm. It is such a shame such a wonderful work was made for the worst of the Spielberg movies. But the music is so good you can forget about the movie. This is a first rate John Williams score.
by burnt_amber_velvet on 12/3/2003 Personally, I think even the film is totally under-rated, not only the soundtrack! This soundtrack is absolutely AMAZING - it makes you never want to grow up. The never-feast music is so uplifting and fun, can't you just see yourself eating all those yummy things!?? Also, the "Remembering Childhood" scene just makes me cry it's so beautiful. Go watch Hook right now!!!! The music is bloody fantastic!!!!!
by ncssunniest on 3/28/2004 favorite track: 1 This soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece. I bought it over 10 years ago and probably haven't heard it in at least eight years and I still remember every single track. Just listening to it put me in a whole different world and even though I was only 11 or 12 it gave me an incredible respect and deep love for classical music. But this divine collection is more than just "classical music" and almost has a genre of its own. I really can't explain it but this soundtrack is a must-have in anyone's collection. If you haven't heard it yet you don't know what you're missing.
by prognosticator on 6/28/2004 favorite track: 7 This is my favorite soundtrack to any movie. I love Captain Hook's theme. I think if this weren't a Peter Pan movie, a lot more people would see it, and they should - the movie and the soundtrack are both awesome.
by jonrichey14 on 7/21/2004 John Williams has the most amazing musical talent. Here he combines his talent with his dazzingly brilliant style to create a collage of gorgeous themes for Hook. He has managed to turn this simply charming and witty film into one of my all-time favorites by composing the most original and interestingly beautiful themes for every mood of the film. I mean, this soundtrack is absolutely flawless!
by Hobbs_rudy on 11/29/2004 favorite track: 7 I just love this CD very much. The movie is also awesome. Loved Captain Hook/Dustin Hoffman. My favorite track is #7, heard when the pirates are presenting the Hook. You have to buy this CD and the movie!

by BackToTheFutureFan on 8/11/2005 favorite track: 13 I rate Hook in John Williams' top five scores among Jurassic Park and Star Wars. I still cannot believe how John Williams can come up with such familiar themes every time he creates a new score. Hook is no exception.
The film is fantastic. Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman playing an aged Peter Pan and Hook himself. There is always a battle going on between Pan and Hook, and John Williams amplifies the action with tracks like "The Ultimate War." "Granny Wendy" is a beautiful, soft theme to convey the gentleness of Wendy. The best piece in the score is "Remembering Childhood." The track starts out when Jack hits the homerun in the film and the crowd goes wild. It continues on to where Peter finds the old tree and meets tinkerbell. The end of the track, though, is the best musical moment in the entire score. Peter finds his happy thought and becomes Peter Pan. The main theme is beauiful with its percussion and adventurous with its brass. So bombastic and thrilling.
This score made the movie better than it already is; and the movie was good. Spielberg and Williams are the perfect dynamic duo. This score belongs in your collection.
by jollyholiday1101 on 8/17/2005 favorite track: 6 My favorite movie, probably not the most popular, but still my favorite movie since I was really young. The movie does not work without the perfect John Williams score. One of Williams' best.
by pianoman on 10/16/2005 Why was this film such a flop? The film features a good cast, a good well told story, enough childish action to keep any child happy, and enough sentimental "character development" filler dialogue to keep any adult happy, not to mention a top notch, thematic and fantastic score.
As for James Newton Howard's scores for kiddie films Peter Pan and Treasure Planet or Joel McNeely's Return to Neverland, forget all of them. This score and soundtrack is the most complete, lengthy, multi-thematic, well-constructed and magical score of them all. It even puts all Williams' own Harry Potter scores to shame, which are works of art themselves.
This score has everything you could possibly want from a fantasy soundtrack. The themes are memorable, the action music is well constructed, thematically integrated, very fast and powerful. The sentimental music is heart breaking.
Some excellent action cues include "Hook Napped" and "The Ultimate War." Tracks that introduce new themes include "Presenting the Hook," "Prologue," "Farewell Neverland," "You are the Pan" and "The Arrival of Tink." The track "From Mermaids to Lost Boys" will make you fly with the female choir and harp glissandos. The rest of the track will blow you away with orchestral complexity and speed.
Tracks like "You are the Pan." "Remembering Childhood" and "Farewell Neverland" are lengthy beautiful, sentimental cues that will touch your heart.
For crying out loud, there is no doubt about buying this score, it is an absolute must. I include no bias in this review.
by TheTelmarine on 7/30/2008 favorite track: 13 While not a favorite, Hook manages to delight and deliver. An excellent main theme (and many other, more minor ones) holds your attention throughout the album. The themes are very well constructed, and it is another brilliant score by John Williams. Parts of it don't sound like standard Williams score, but look deep and you'll find it. Every last theme and track is packed to the brim with signature Williams motifs. Overall, this is a good album. I haven't seen the film in a long time, so I can't say much for the score as used in the film, but this album alone is quite enough, in my opinion! Very good! add a review
