Well I think we might be getting a new Prologue piece, I'm not sure how different it is, but lets hope this might be on there. I think I read that the scene was never filmed as Sauron's gauntlets were quite sharp and kept hurting the actor who played Gil-galad, which is a tremendous shame. It would have only been short but obviously very necessary.

In fact, I want this music so much that I went over to Doug's place the other day, a Nazgûl in tow and...well, it's a done deal!

CK, wishing you all a nice weekend and with some already owning RotK:CR, how could it NOT be?!

Oh my! Thanks for the podcast updates, Doug. Well, another year of wait...and it's worth waiting for! At least we've got what we wished for, and bless everyone who helped to make this happen!
Hm-m-m, the alternate Argonath theme is an interesting take, but I personally prefer the one that was used in the film...actually I hope that the Rarities will just confirm that all the best we already have in the CR ;-)

Oh, gkgyver, about your question and ROTK having a "different" sound... I know what you mean. When I first listened to the short previews from the OST on soundtrack.net, I thought it had a much more classical sound to it. It sounded brighter, somehow... especially the first few tracks.
It's a sign of a great story, told through film or music, when it develops and changes as it unfolds. ROTK sounds a lot more mellow in places... feels just like the journey is coming to an end, for better or for worse.

Brilliant job Jim Ware.... lovely stuff

Although I'm very glad to finally hear the twisted seduction theme as it was meant to be heard (as Smeagol starts to strnagle Deagol), I'm still undecided whether it is more effective than what we eventually saw in theatres. I prefer the 'no-music' version of the 2nd half though.

I agree with Camillu concerning the 2nd half: I prefer the 'no-music' version too. But I like the music heard on the CR notheless...

    @ Jim

I would start the music maybe two seconds later, so that it begins when Smeagol opens Deagol's hand and you see the ring. That way, that thick brass chord in the middle highligligts Gollum's sudden grasp for the fish in the water.
    Just a suggestion ...

I'm not sure asking Peter to monitor these threads for customer service questions is the best way to get answers. He did say this in an earlier post:
    quote:
A lot of you ordered with Priority Mail, which means your box will probably be in your hands on Monday... if the post office has recovered nicely from its day off earlier this week.
This makes me think it might have gone out on Friday but perhaps after the USPS cut off time for next day delivery. The USPS site also says, "Next day delivery by noon or by 3:00 pm to many destinations."

Personally, the man worked hard to get everyone's stuff out as soon as possible, send personal emails (ahead of the automated ones) for some of us when items shipped, and he underchaged on postage and retail price. Since the item isn't technically supposed to be in our hands before Tuesday, we can repay him in patience.

    Hello everybody,

I've got a question for Doug (or anybody else who is in the know) and sincerely hope it has not been asked before:

A couple of years ago I was told by David Salo himself about (part of) a lyric written for the ringwraiths
along the lines of "kelkum-ishi, burzum-ishi, akha, gûm-ishi, ashi gurum" meaning "in the cold, in
the darkness, here, in the void, only death".

Now I had been hoping to read more about this lyric in one of your wonderful Annotated Scores, but alas even the ROTK-Annotatd Score did not make any mention of it.

    So my question is:
Have you ever heard about this lyric?
And if so, could you be so kind and tell me, where it should have been placed in the Movie/Score?

Kind Regards and thanks in advance,
    Teth

These lines are not part of the score.
It's what the Ringwraith says before he stabs Frodo on Weathertop! If you listen carefully, you can hear it in the movie...

For those unaware, ROTK Complete Recordings is now available to download for a very cheap $25 (CDN) on iTunes Canada, and thus presumably cheaper on iTunes in the USA. I'm very tempted but will try to hold out. Very tempted. Very tempted...

Those orders selecting Next Day method are shipped with UPS (not USPS) and that particular outfit doesn't make deliveries on weekends. So, if shipped and in the UPS system on Friday, it will arrive Monday.

I know you can't force people to read all this before placing an order... I'd probably get 1 order a day if so, but the info is linked to multiple times in the shopping cart checkout, among other places. So there is it! Thanks again....

Interesting. Mine is apparently in St. Paul (which is just across the river from me). It would have to make it to my neighborhood PO by sorting time in the morning to get to me tomorrow. If by some chance it does, that would mean that my standard shipping arrived at the same time that next day would have. I am too frugal for next day. Even if it doesn't get here till Tuesday, I'm only 24 hours behind and $14 richer.

Not even tempting for me, buddy. I mean, with the sound mix as clear as it is in RotK, I would never even entertain the idea of accepting all that degradation by purchasing from iTunes.

Now, considering the sound mixing on FotR or TTT........... nah, just kidding. I wouldn't use iTunes anyway.

    Review is up at Filmtracks:
    http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/lord_rings03.html

"It would be difficult to provide better treatment of any trilogy of scores than what Reprise Records and Warner have accomplished with the box sets of complete recordings for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings films. It is so rare that film music is both so good and so well treated that you can unequivocally recommend a set that could set you back $60. But these sets, released first for The Fellowship of the Ring in 2005 and then for The Two Towers in 2006 before this final entry for The Return of the King in 2007, are all stunning and spectacular (...)"

Do you guys agree with this statement from the Filmtracks review?

"Die-hard fans of the trilogy have often stated that The Fellowship of the Ring was the most mistreated by its original album edit."

I must say that I wholeheartedly disagree with this. I thought that they did a remarkable job compiling 70 minutes of music for the FOTR OST. Furthermore, we were provided the frequent fan-fav Prologue alternate, The Prophecy. Overall, easily my favorite of the OST releases and the least "mistreated".

I was wondering if they were meant to be links. It seemed like they should be but I couldn't get them to work. Since my default reader is Foxit Reader, I opened them up in Adobe Pro and tried them. But that's an editing program so maybe that's the problem so I tried opening it up at work on Adobe Reader. They went to a lot of trouble with the bold, color, underline if it wasn't meant to be links. If it was meant to be links, they may not have saved it properly when converting from the design software to pdf. You have to have the right version and certain boxes checked for links to function. (yi... so many ways for converting to pdf to go wrong!)

Well, considering how much great material was indeed missing from the OST, I think I agree with Christian's review.

It's, however, interesting to note how much alternate material made the OST in Fellowship's case. The Prophecy (#1), the completely choral Wizards' Duel (#4), how the Revelation of the Ringwraiths is choral from the beginning (#5), Shore's original version of the Bruinen sequence (#8), the un-cut version of Aníron (#10), the original (?) beginning of the Moria fight sequence (end of #12), The Great River (#15), "In Dreams" within context of the Fellowship's breaking.

Do T2T and RotK feature a comparable amount of music that can only be heard on the OSTs (such as the Lighting of the Beacons)?

Yes, it is very dark up here. People in Sweden usually get depressed during the winter.
I think that the sun rise about 8.00 o'clock and goes down around 15.00. We had a lot of snow last week but most of it is gone now.
Hmmm... any sights? Personally, I don't like Stockholm that much. :P Many tourists' like Gamla Stan (the Old City, a small island in the middle of everything) though but it might be boring now when it is winter. My advise is the check out the places around Konserthuset, that area is the most crowded place in Stockholm.
Just a few more days until the concert now, can't wait!
The CR will be released on the 28th here in Sweden, can't wait for that either!

Sorry if my english is bad. :P

I know its early days, but how do people think the bonus discs will be packaged with Doug's book? While I don't expect an attached box in a similar vein to the Complete Recordings, I am hoping they aren't just in cardboard slipcases, as I hope one can display them in their own right. Hopefully Doug and co. will find some way to blow us away by coming up with something totally unexpected.
