My uneducated guess would be that the book is about the scores as composed and recorded, not about the albums. Perhaps Doug is writing special liner notes (incl. track analysis) for those as well?

Anyway, I'd absolutely love to have the The Road Goes Ever On And On vocals on the CD.

    The above is *pretty* accurate.

See that's better than a blanket "no comment," right? :)

Well, as "Lord of the Rings" was probably one of the better-documented film series released in...oh, ever....I'd really like to see a book on the score ala The Art of books, and the Warfare and Weapons type-books....(this is me wishing openly.) If such a book were to accompany (or vice-versa) a multi-disc set of the complete score, outtakes, additional music, and source cues....more's the better.

I loved hearing The Road Goes Ever On in the film, if just a scrap of it with Bilbo--and its' additional symphonic inclusion in the Extended edition was even better. While I do have that old Glenn Yarbough version kind of permenantly tattooed in my memory from having the read-along-LP of The Hobbit (animated), when I was a much younger person, I'm still endeared to this piece of Hobbit-folkiness, and its' treatment in the Jackson films was brilliant.

Hey Doug, does Peter Jackson have any say in how the extended soundtracks will be released such as packaging, content, artwork, etc.? I would love to be able to read some extensive liner notes from him in the soundtracks as well as Howard Shore and yourself. Maybe a paragraph or two from the cast members? Now that would be sweet. Do you have any new news to share with us yet? The next possibly three months is going to severly test my patience!

Easier to program out than to put in what isn't there in the first place. Tough for some, but, you'll survive.

Gratuitous singalong is one thing... but what's gratuitous about the singing in these scores?

I don't believe the singing is gratuitous in these movies at all. In fact, it really enhances both the movie and soundtrack experience. The fact that Tolkien's languages were used in the singing and chorus adds a lot of texture and realism to the movies, IMO.

Doug, any chance that when the information can be released that we can get to listen to streaming samples or maybe a complete track of, say, under 1 minute of the score? I know that they did this when the Superman 2-disc set was released. It has been very quiet lately for LOTR soundtrack talk. Any news would be welcome! Thanks!

Well, Shore is the producer on this, but everything will go down to Wingnut for nods of approval, so although Jackson may not be a driving force specifically, this will all go before his eyes.

As for interviews, you’ll have to wait and see who is lined up.

Well, my guess, if I had to make one, is that Dan Goldwasser at Soundtrack.net will probably tease this album as he has past LOTR discs. Of course, only Dan himself really knows what he’s planning, so maybe drop him a line. But, to be honest, it’s still pretty early to be considering such things… the release date is still yet to be announced. However, I do think it’s now officially been chosen, so hey, that’s progress, yes?

    More soon!

I was being facetious - but I do feel that the film-makers managed to cram in an off-key drinking song at every possible opportunity, and I don't know about anyone else, but I would have rather heard the Orcs sing 'Where there's a whip, there's a will', than hear drunken hobbits and Rohirrim salutate the swill!

Ah of course. In the book, the orc chieftain said - 'where there's a whip, there's a will.' Hence the mistake.

Well, going by the book, they'd have to throw out the drinking songs and replace them by bath songs.

OK, it is now September. Reports are that FOTR will come out in November. That's not too far away. Doug (or anyone), is there a date set for announcing the release(s)? Any new news that we can digest? I hope this is not a sign of a delay in the release.

Ummm... since it's going to be a "Boxed Set" I don't think they would separate the films like that. I would think that Box Set means all together.

Yes, I also think there will be separate Soundtracks, but I don't know if they'll be staggered.
Though, Doug once said that decisions on ROTK were still a while off, so ...

Nevertheless: WHERE IS AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT?
Come on, two weeks left until October! Doug said the date was set, the announcement written, so where the hell is it?

I think it's safe to bet it won't be released all at once. The Two Towers might be released probably 6 months after The Fellow Ship Of The Ring. I said probably not sure beacuse I can't be certain.

The same thing would probably happen with Return Of The King which would probably released 6 months after The Two Towers.

    Just my opinion.
