I think that serves a more dramatic purpose, given the nature of the scene, and I'm not sure if it really works in purely musical form. Any of you guys think the same?

I feel that Billy and Dom's voices should have been louder and out played the instrument. Like the way they did with the Hobbit Drinking Song in FOTR. But Green Dragon Beer is also a song performed by Plan 9 so Im sure they wanted their music heard as well.

lol... looking at me only rarely works. I didn't think I had any burning questions but then, after a spate of emails from LOTR score fans this last week, a couple came to me. But in calling the number I hear you want ROTK questions and you want them 'concise'. I am rarely concise. I have long, philosophical questions. But, I'd already dialed the number and incurred the long distance charge so I left one.... not ROTK related, I'm afraid, so I won't be surprised if it doesn't make the podcast.

For what it's worth, I think I threw some of those longer-winded questions at you in a past thread as something I would like to see addressed in your book.

As he said, everything concerning Osgiliath.

    Here's a breakdown:

0:00- 3:30 features the first part of the Osgiliath invasion as heard on the Extended Edition; at this point, the film cuts to Pippin climbing the beacon tower, the CR however, from

3:40- 4:03 in a glorious statement of the Fellowship theme and the Gondor theme, as Gandalf hastes to Gondor.
4:04- 5:10 is the second part of the Osgiliath battle (after the Rohirrim leave Edoras), featuring numerous unused bits.
5:11- 6:25 is the Nazgul attack and Faramir's troops fleeing.
6:25- 6:42 Gandalf arrives at Minas Tirith accompanied by the same fanfare heard in the film.
6:43- ca. 7:00 is unused music that accompanies Gandalf noticing the trouble.
7:00- end plays as heard in the film.

    Hi gkgyver,
Just a quick question, not having heard any of the tracks yet; when you say:

3:40- 4:03 in a glorious statement of the Fellowship theme and the Gondor theme, as Gandalf hastes to Gondor.

I take it this is the music that plays in the film as Gandalf rides with Pippin and crosses into Gondor, culminating in when he sees Minas Tirith? Only, the thing is, I really liked how that was placed in the film, coming just after the forging of Anduril; I thought the music flowed very well. Does the aforementioned piece of music appear again in this format do you know, only Doug mentioned getting both and hopefully this is what he meant? Thanks in advance.

Oh, can anyone tell me what version of Aragorn fighting at the Pelennor Fields is in the CR? The theatrical version where it's just him with the Gondor theme, or the EE version intercut with Eowyn and Gothmog?
I'm hoping for the theatrical as it uses such a grand, uninterrupted statement of the Gondor theme, but the EE seems to be the standard in the CR...

    Don't worry, you'll get that
The music mentioned by you is part of 'The Grace of Undómiel'.
Everything is there, right after the reforging of Andúril: Gandalf & Pippin crossing into Gondor, seeing Minas Tirith, riding up to the 7th level and Pippin recognizing the White Tree.
Brilliant track, btw. (Hm... I'm saying this about every track I heard...)

Cool. It starts off with 4-03 The Eagles, then goes back to 3-04 The Battle of the Pelennor Fields. Next up is 3-16 "For Frodo" (starting off with the choral Fellowship theme), and it finishes off with 4-08 Bilbo's Song.

It's a nice way to listen to four full tracks, and they did make a good choice for their "suite", as these are all great tracks which go well together.

Well, "Osgiliath Invaded" is a completely different recording. The Osgiliath battle was intercut with Gandalf riding to Minas Tirith, so the music for that is a different recording, and not the one in the current film. Plus, the orchestration is different.

Hmmm, it is the EE version of the "Green Dragon," where Pippin falters when he sees Gandalf.

I'm really glad that Barnes and Noble put out previews for all of the tracks for the CR but 30 second previews are so frustrating right now!

It's like sitting down to a delicious slice of cheese cake, taking one bite and then having someone come up and snatch it and run off!

I think he's referring to Doug finding all the unused and/or rejected material, Neo. From Doug's comments over the past couple of years it does seem like his discoveries have been somewhat of an ongoing thing.

I seem to remember him saying something along the lines that there are hours upon hours of recordings, and it takes rather a long time to sort through them.

Update on LotR-concert in Stockholm, Sweden: Tickets will become available on October 25th at 11.00 (Swedish time, we are 1+ hour from Britain, don't know what that timezone is called).
This is not entirely confirmed yet, I think the swedish website will update it more correctly very soon. For now the information can be reached only through Howard Shores official website.

No real mysteries here, really. The first one is the beginning of the invasion of Osgiliath, and the second one is the scene at the crossroads.

By the way, if you have a hard time holding out for the CR, watch the "Oldham Youth Orchestra plays Lord of the Rings" videos, and you'll want to stay away from LotR music for a while

oh.. I thought he meant where was the video from? The video is familiar to me but looking through my audio commentary and appendices transcripts, I can't find it. I even transcribed at least part of the bonus dvd from the ROTK LE soundtrack. But maybe he is asking about the music and not the video.

I hear "Shelob The Great" has unused music as well.
Part of that is featured also on the RotK Bonus DVD.
PJ talks to Howard Shore and says "The thing with this, Howard, is that it should be horrific really. As much nightmare as possible."
Then they cut to Howard conducting the piece, and afterwards PJ jokes "Umm, yeah, it has some nightmarish quality."

That was supposed to play over Shelob approaching Frodo I think, but the silence in the movie works exceptionally well.

Well, as far as I know, David Salo was the only one who provided translations for the movies and so I find it odd that he had to give this a listen to determine the Elvish lyrics.

So I wonder where Howard Shore got these lyrics from and hence I'm waiting for something official in the AS.

Edit: Official English and Elvish lyrics highly anticipated
