One of my favourite review sites, Moviewave, has just got a semi-facelift and moved to it's new address.Apart from the usual recent reviews, it's now churning out reviews of older scores at an amazing rate (at least 2 per day over the past week), including loads of material for Broughton fans.
I can't wait for all of his older reviews to be linked up, cos his Morricone, Goldsmith and Delerue reviews are quite unique. His Hannibal review is hilarious too.
Have a look...

Hmmm, the link isn't working Mark! Maybe it's down temporarily. I would love to check out the Broughton reviews, though.

I have nothing but praise for Moviewave. When I'm browsing the net, it's the first place I go to for reviews--level-headed reviews at that--and I appreciate his Morricone score reviews, as there aren't many sites out there which cover Ennio's work.NP: Morricone's "Perlasca"

There it is! It's back up. Awesome. Looks like Mr. Southall writes a fair share of the reviews here, so I'm sure it'll be fun to read.

Thanks for your kind words.Yes, I've been trying to catch up with all the older titles I had.
The review I've just posted is of something really very special indeed.

I don't think this is permanent... it's got something to do with a server foul-up.In the meantime, two 'substitute' Southall reviews:

Sadly, my host providers are a bunch of useless, clueless morons. I am caught in no man's land - I have paid them to renew my domain (two months ago), they have not done so, all they keep telling me is they are "working on it" (how much work does it take, for God's sake?) and presumably if they don't do anything soon, it will be open to the highest bidder.

I laughed out loud at the Da Vinci review--the end especially. Clever.I picked up the album at the recommendation of some of the fellas here, and after a few listens I felt about as indifferent about the album version as I had in the film version. It was altogether a little too quiet and nondescript, which isn't a terrible thing for a Zimmer score--in fact, it's a nice surprise--but unfortunately when I actually decide to shell out cash for some Zimmer music, I want my fast food immediate gratification of Zimmer Music TM. The ending theme delivers this, and is both powerful and a little moving, but I was thrown off on how it sort of ends sloppily, as if Hans just saw that the time was up on the ticker, stopped everything, and clocked out.
I suppose part of the problem was that in deciding to buy a Zimmer album for once in many a year, I wanted to hear some of the usual entertaining Zimmer riffs, so I guess I'm mostly to blame for my disappointment.
I did pop in The Peacemaker a few days ago for the first time in at least 2 years. I enjoyed it about as much as I did when I was 16 or so, that is until 15 minutes in the blaring synth brass began to turn my brain into mush, at which point I felt I'd had my fill. But it's still entertaining in its own way. I may give it another spin two years from now.

I'm glad movie-wave is back! It's nice that Southall re-wrote his Alien 3 review. I remember that he'd originally given it a scathing 1 star review. Also, in the Ghostbusters review he says that the main theme is virtually unused in the film. Last time I checked, it was all over the movie!

Well, it usually appears but definitely Bernstein's theme doesn't catch the public as the famous song does.
