February 22 2006 2006 - Site newsI apologise for the relative paucity of updates to this site so far this year. Sadly, it seems that Colosseum Records, who distribute Varese Sarabande's catalogue here in Europe, have decided - despite my best efforts - that I no longer warrant promotional copies of albums from them, which means that I am having to pay for virtually all the albums I review. Because of this, it is highly unlikely that anywhere near as many new releases will be reviewed here at Movie Wave from now on. Indeed, it is quite likely that next time I have to pay to renew the domain, I will just let it slip. I apologise for this but hope you can understand the reasons. Running the site has become a rather expensive hobby, and if I'm going to have to pay for virtually everything that gets reviewed, I'm not sure I see the point. I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to those album producers and promoters who have supported the site over the years, and continue to do so now, and I hope I can still bring some quality writing over the next two or three months.

This is definetely my favourite online review site... hope it remains online, although I fully understand his reasons.[Message edited by Camillu on 02-22-2006]

Great shame. This is the first review site I started reading, and still pretty much the best, which is amazing when you consider it's a one-man show.

IT's one of the original soundtrack review site. 10 years old or something. Perhaps he can hook up with Jonathan Broxton and continue his effort there?

Terrible news. It's my favorite soundtrack review website as well. Southall does a fantastic job with it, and I hope things turn around for the better.

I don't get it, he speaks as if Varese is the only label he reviews CDs for. What about the other labels?[Message edited by TimT on 06-14-2006]

What about the other labels? You're right, but Varese are by far the most prolific releaser of soundtracks, and form a vast percentage of the review copies I receive, so without them there wouldn't have been nearly enough variety to justify a website.
Fortunately, those problems were cleared up in the end. Little did I know that the decision to go off-line would be taken out of my hands, now, thanks to my host provider's incompetence!

This happened here in the states a year or so ago. Varese then began issuing only score discs for promo releases that they wanted to get some word of mouth from to critics. As far as I can tell, that seems to have changed here in the states as of this year, though I think they are being selective here as well.
