Well...that rumor about Barry's 007 Theme in "Die Another Day" isn't exactly untrue.

If you listen to track 14, Antonov, you'll hear David Arnold uses a very brief part of the kettle drum rhythm from the 007 Theme at the 7:35 mark on the track.

As others have pointed out, Arnold has paid "homage" to Barry's Bond scores in other tracks on the CD too. I think the "You Only Live Twice" type orchestration in track 15, Going Down Together, is a very obvious example. Some have said this piece was a direct "rip off" of "YOLT" but I disagree. It's just the sound of the orchestration, the melody is not the same to my ears at all. As a matter of fact, I found more uses of previous Arnold Bond motifs, etc. in this score than Barry ones.

All those early comments about the use of the choir being very Barry-like aren't really true. The choir sounds more like stuff from "Stargate" than Barry score to me.

As usual, this is a score that gets more interesting the more I hear it. Can't wait to listen to the rest of it in the film next week.

    James

    THANK YOU!!!!

And here certain folks said I was wrong..... (well, I did say ID4, not as "in-your-face" as STARGATE.... but still. )

I disagree re: the choir statement. Set "The Last Valley" right next to any of those Icarus moments in "Die Another Day", and the stylistic similarities are uncanny. It doesn't resemble "Stargate" at all, IMO.

The stuff in "ID4" *sounds* like David Arnold to me. What's present in "Die Another Day" feels like it's intentionally trying to pay homage to Barry. I don't think that was Arnold's goal in "ID4" - and I don't think it comes through in how it's arranged.
