Cool, but it would have been cooler having a 79 minute score release instead.

From what I know of Die Another Day, the tracklisting looks to cover the entire film, rather than half as the TND/A&M Records disc did. I'll be happy with whatever they give us - it's certainly better than nothin'. Looks like it should be good album!

By the way... if you want to hear part of the "james bond theme" remixed by Oakenfold, try and find and download the Bond TV ad for Omega Watches. I'm pretty sure that is the remix that we can expect.... and it's damn good too!

Out of curiosity, which orchestra performed the score?

[Also, does anyone know which orchestra or orchestras performed the last two Arnold-composed scores?]

Though I'm still not too fond of the Madonna song, the Star Wars references in the music video are great.

Looks like this is going to be a good album. Hope the Oakenfold remix is as good as the Moby one, and hope that 'Welcome to Cuba' sounds as good as it does on paper (or screen anyway).

A bunch of us over at CommanderBond.net were getting worried if the other tracklisting was real and that we would be getting only the first half of the score (ala TND). This tracklist (which i'm almost certain is real) looks like it covers the entire film, which is REALLY a relief. We can always hope for an isolated score track on the DVD i guess. I also heard a rumor that the 007 theme was going to be heard in the "ice ballet" scene between Xao (in his jag) and Bond (in his Aston Martin Vanguish), hopefully this is true. About the Oakenfold remix... take my word for it, it definately blows Moby's reversion out of the water! It is a wonderful remix of the theme we all know and love. I'm still a bit sore about the fact we get a making of madonnas video featurette on the disc as opposed to more score.

If Barry's own 007 theme is used in DAD, then I will certainly be a happy camper. It hasn't been heard since MOONRAKER and I know David Arnold has mentioned wanting to use it at some point (if I remember correctly). He can correct me if I am wrong.

Otherwise, the album looks like it should be a good listen, even w/ only 45 minutes. I actually thought TWINE was too long as an album at 60 minutes!

    Bah.

That Oakenfold mix is weak. Listen to it, then go back and pop in The World is Not Enough, track 3...now THAT is a bond theme re-mix. Arnold is the master of Bond AND orchestral-techno.

I am almost exploding with anticipation for this score! I can't wait to hear the big ol' James Bond choir kick in too!

Not on the album. But there's a good hour or so of music in the film not on the CD.

He does use the staccato brass that starts off Barry's 007 theme (as he did in "White Knight" in TND)....

Now you're reading waaay into things.

It's been reported that Arnold wrote about 100 minutes of music (or something like that), so with 46 minutes released, that leaves about an hour unreleased. Simple math, James.

Sounds a little like Latin. Think the chorus in INDEPENDENCE DAY, but with words. (not as extreme and in-your-face as the uber-cool stuff in STARGATE, though)

Hmmmm... I wouldn't compare it to ID4. Dan, DA really evokes some John Barry with the latin-sounding chorus in DIE ANOTHER DAY. The best comparison I could make would be to THE LAST VALLEY. This stuff is simply the most Barry-esque music for choir David Arnold has ever written. You'll find the choral moments we're talking about in tracks 10, 12, and 14. I'm assuming it's the theme for Gustav Graves' "Icarus weapon". It sounds diabolical and majestic enough... almost religious. Track 10 gives you a very dramatic, powerful performance of this theme. It's then cleverly integrated into fast-paced action during 12 and 14.

Speaking of Barry in Arnold's score, there are several other nostalgic moments of note as well. The inevitable happy ending cue - Going Down Together features a note-for-note presentation of that wonderful Barry-esque moment we all wished was on the TWINE album. You remember - the skiing scene between Bond and Elektra. Yep, David Arnold transplants that directly into the cue... it's awesome. I dare say it's the better ending (score-wise) between TND and TWINE. Though I enjoy all of them immensely.

If you enjoyed DA's score from ENOUGH, you'll enjoy a great portion of DIE ANOTHER DAY. Thankfully the oh-so-recognizable LAST OF THE DOGMEN motif didn't make it into this score (it made cameo appearances in BABY BOY and ENOUGH). What does make the transition is string writing reminiscent of ENOUGH which accompanies some of the action material. Also finding its way into the score is the descending piano motif from the Pipeline cue on the TWINE album. Great touch!

Overall, this is a winner. As far as Bond in the 21st century goes... well, nobody does it better than David Arnold.

    Nice write up Jeron.

(Should I get a co-writing credit for our chat about that "Last of the Dogmen" motif. Funny you mentioned it here right after I mentioned it to you.)

    Jeron,

You also forgot to mention Arnold's kick-ass usage of the ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE bassline.....
