My point exactly.

And that's why I think they should have saved the first grand rendition of the Imperial March for Ep. 3, either when Anakin becomes Vader, or when the Emperor gains control (though that would be good for a truly wicked version of the -- what's it called? --- Emperor's Theme!)Hearing it full-blast in Ep. 2 is very premature. Lucas and Williams should probably seek help for that problem.

He already has control, he gradually became more and more powerful since the beginning of TPM.

OK, just to get back to the music for a minute, I had a thought that may have already been discussed. Is it just me or does the Star Wars main title theme really not fit the new series? It seems each time it used in the context of the score it feels shoehorned in there, as if Lucas is just trying to make the film feel like an actual Star Wars film. Since the theme was originally associated with Luke, it just feels out of place in the new trilogy.Anyone else here agree or disagree? Would have used it in the same scenes or in a different place in the new films (if at all)?

Lots of people have argued that the Star Wars theme is just that, a theme for the series. So sticking it in various locations in the trilogy might be a little jarring, but they do apply. I sort of agree with that. I have no problem with it being used in the opening (continuity, and all that), and I think its sparing use int he prequels can be justified that it is the Star Wars theme.Since the original trilogy happened to focus around Luke's adventures, it was only fitting that the theme apply to him. Now comes the prequels, where Luke has no presence. And a lot of people have argued that the theme is really the Skywalker theme, though its use in the prequels does not suggest that.
So I believe its use outside of the title crawl is not warranted.

Jeffy,I have to disagree with you on the use of the Imperial March being premature. By nature in the "latter part" of the trilogy, it's only as much Darth Vader's them as he's leading most of the empire while the Emperor is watching on high, right?
As we see the beginnings of the empire with the Clone Troopers, the reason the Empire can exist, this music is used, a perfect allusion or foreshadow device for the saga as a whole. I do agree it will be such a unique device when it's used for Anakin's fall to the dark. Perhaps it will be a twisting track that weaves around phrases of both the Imperial March and the Emperor's Theme back and forth with short stints thrown in of Anakin's theme and Across The Stars for sheer tragedy.
In any case- Star Wars begets Star Wars: we'll be talking about this until the end of time.
