What composers do you think are sadly under used? A few that come to mind are...Basil Poledouris. He does very few films now a days which is a cryin' shame becuase he's one of the best composers out there.
Trevor Jones. He needs better films to score. He's seems to be in a rut with lousy TV movies.
Randy Newman. A man of great talent but who only rarely can write somthing serious enough for a film other than Pixar fliks. (
)John Debney. He needs more serious film too.
There's a few. Who else is under used or needs to be used for a diffrent type of film? C'yall

NP: Flik Leaves: A Bug's Life (Randy Newman) Great track!

P.S. I used the arrow signal for no paticular reason.

This has been discussed many, many times, but I suppose there's no harm in bringing it about again. My first answer is always Richard Band. Immense talent that yearns to be given a proper assignment.
Bruce Broughton's underuse nowadays is baffling. Utterly baffling. What are people thinking?
I'll think of more.

"Basil Poledouris. He does very few films now a days which is a cryin' shame becuase he's one of the best composers out there."Damn straight. Hopefully he'll be able to spread his wings in The Touch and King Conan!
"John Debney. He needs more serious film too."
They don't need to be serious; CutThroat Island was about as silly as the come. He needs big budget action/adventure is what he needs...

Michael J. Lewis. His scores for The Madwoman of Chaillot, Theatre Of Blood, and Sphinx are only three reasons why this man MUST make more movie music!

All these wonderful people are under used because hacks like Hamzimmer, Horner and others are highly OVER USED!

Broughton obviously. Also John Scott. Michael J Lewis (or has he just given up writing new stuff?). Simon Boswell. John Corigliano. Mychael Danna (go Hulk!!). Mark McKenzie. Pino Donaggio. Robert Folk. Michael Giacchino. David Newman. Julian Nott.Although, of course, some of these are not so much underused as simply not getting assignments of the kind of caliber that they deserve.
What Andre said.

Michael Giacchino. By far. This guy was fantastic three years ago. He is tragically undervalued if his biggest projects (and releases) end up being "Medal of Honor" video game spinoffs for the next 5 years. DreamWorks needs to use their secret weapon. Now.

One of these days, the whole Arthurian stigma will wear off....but in the meanwhile....And how the heck did you get a Swordfish--? I thought I moved fast--but not faster than Intrada, I suppose.

I want to give props to both Pete and Rochelle for mentioning Mark McKenzie. Mark's such an awesome talent... it's about time he was given a good film with a nice budget. Just think about what he could do with a 70 or 80 piece orchestra! Wowza!Jeron

I agree with many of the choices here, but what about Tom, er, Bill Conti? It's been years since we've heard from him on the composing front.Underused and (possibly) unknown others:
Steve Bartek
Shirley Walker
Louis Febre
Udi Harpaz
Kevin Manthei
Amotz Plessner
