This is a truly stellar achievement - an incredible adventure score that belongs in everyone's collection. I'm up at 4:XX in the morning and haven't gone to sleep yet... yes, I'm insane. It's that good.Let's hear what you think... and in the mean time, check out my review. Sound clips should be up very soon (right, Peter??).

Atlantis is out and it's really great!
There are a lot of beautiful themes, great mickey mousing-cues and bombastic action tracks.
I would say it's better than last year's Dinosaur because of its unbelievable variation.
My favourite tracks are The Submarine and all tracks from The Crystal Chamber (14) to the final track: Atlantis which has only 2 minutes play time. I wonder if there will be a longer end credits suite in the film.
One theme as heard in track 14/15 reminds me of the Unbreakable theme.
The only dissapointment on the CD is the song performed by Mya although JNH has wrote it (with diane warren). There were a lot of better disney song in the past!
Every score fan should purchase this album. The best score this year by now IMHO!

Well it just makes the review sound cheesy and a bit biased. But no big deal, at least you're contributing to the site. And it is a great score.

If you typically enjoy "Disney pop songs," you'll more than likely enjoy "Where the Dream Takes You," which does expand on a theme in the score. I find it to be complimentary to the album.

Let me go read some of TimT's reviews and see if they sound like "commercials." I just bet some of 'em do.

Tim, all of your reviews are biased. When it comes to sounding like "commercials," (which is not what "bias" really means), you got a few of them, too. I didn't read them all just now, but I notice your comments on Vertical Limit are very similar in tone as Jeron's Atlantis.Let's not confuse the issue any more though. Being biased is a good thing (although I don't think "biased" is a good word to use to describe preferences, or inclinations, as it infers negativity). If you are excited about a score and you like it, be honest. If your words sounds like a commercial when you talk about it, is it such a big deal? If it is, write up your own comments! The link is right there in front of your mouse pointer....
And yes, thanks to both you and Jeron for contributing. People like to read what others think, and I am glad the place gives you an opportunity to develop your thoughts (and writing skills, too). It's cool, and would be great if more people like you and Jeron contributed more (and a special thanks to all who have contributed; we all appreciate it).

You're so funny, Brian...One thing I failed to mention in my review was that Atlantis could (probably) best be described as the result of what Waterworld, Stargate, and Cutthroat Island might sound like if put in a blender and set on frape. The final product is great, and definitely stays with you long after the cd stops playing.

You know...I say this with much shame...but at the beginning of James Newton Howard's carreer are just couldn't stand the guy, the name alone made me crinch. Then I heard Waterworld and Wyatt Earp and loved the music...still resented the composer. Now, years later and the wiser (I hope, but Jeron may disagree) I find this man to be one of Hollywood's tops. He certainly has made me a believer. Dinosaur is still a heavy fave in my playing drum these days and it will be complemented by the sounds of what is Atlantis. This guy seems not to be able to dissapoint.
Vertical Limit was a great score but I find that Atlantis tops it. Yes, we have a funny, mickey-mousing composer here all of the sudden. The images he invokes through his mulitcolored assortments of audial stimuli is awe-inspiriing. The drums, the chorus, the melodies the ethnic values. Sheer triumph. Simply the best score of the year.
One beef perhaps. Not enough of the main theme...but I can live with that.
NP: Atlantis, if the actual island was as grand and exciting and as beautiful as this score...then it was awesome indeed.

Tell me what?Yeah, Atlantis and JNH are both good. I agree! Well said!
Gushing implies water flowing quickly, usually (but not always) in large quantities. Implications are not definitions, however. Interpret what you will.

Atlantis was everywhere I looked, I grabbed my copy on a whim at mediaplay.Atlantis is just one more reason why James Newton Howard has become one of my top 3 composers. (Williams, Goldsmith, JNH)! All his recent scores since the 6th Sense have been great- especially Dinosaur.
I'm only half way through the cd, but man-that main theme is great! Loads of atmostphere...I think I will be playing this one more than any other summer film!

Incidentally, does anyone know when it (the CD) is released in the UK. I think the film isn't due until October, or something, so I guess I'm really gonna have to import this one...

Boba, it applies to any 3 soundtracks, $5.97 and up (I think that's the cheapest price around here).Pete M, there are too many costs involved in offering cheap shipping outside the USA. There are some other kinds of sales ideas brewing though.

I ran out and bought ATLANTIS immediately after I read this thread. Wow! JNH is quickly becoming one of my favorite composers. A lot of this score sounds like parts of "Waterworld" and "Vertical Limit" though. I'm willing to look past that though because it's such a beautiful score. Great use of synths and voices. Thanks for the recomendations everyone!
