I have been playing this nonstop since I got it.
    -the main theme is terrific
-the solo voice in the Crystal Chamber is spooky and beautiful
-the score reminds me of stargate for some reason...and that is a good thing!

I just got the Dinosaur 2 cd complete, and while Atlantis isn't quite as good in my opinion, its still one of the best scores of the year, and proof of why Howard is the best working composer today!

Anybody else noticed that Track 07 - The journey is missing in the booklet's tracklisting?
I found this kind of strange!

It's kind of funny that the singer who's performing the latest Disney song is concurrently strutting around on MTV in lingerie for the Moulin Rouge video.

    Times are changing I guess.

    1) Bought CD yesterday.
[ Sorry Peter, but getting the domestic canadian release cost me much less than buying it from MM, considering the Canadian dollar's current value. It was $16.99cdn at the local store. MM has it for $15.99usd. Factor in shipping charges, and the difference is half the price of another cd. . ]

    2) As the cranky-never-happy monkey around here, I have to complain:
Music isn't too bad, but it's not too good either. I'd say Atlantis is just about average. Found Dinosaur much superior. Atlantis is a nice listen, but once the CD is over, I don't remember any of the music I had listened to. I remember the style, but none of the notes. It reminds me too much of Alan Menken's scores for Hercules and Aladdin: cute, well crafted, works with the film, and in the end... nothing. Atlantis will join Zimmer's Gladiator, North's Cleopatra and Fiedel's Terminator on that shelf of CDs I only play when I don't want to be distracted by the music, but want to have some background noise playing while I do something else. (Some music is better than no music, but playing the really good CDs distracts me from the other work.)

I haven't heard Atlantis yet, but do have one suggestion to make.

Anyone interested in a magnificent undersea adventure score should be aware of John Scott's "20,000 Leaques Under The Sea". As is typical with Mr. Scott's work, this one is relatively unknown and undiscussed. But I can assure you it is an incredibly excellent CD.

Definitely - that's a great cd, one of my favorite John Scott scores. Awesome suggestion, man.

    Jeron,

    Thanks for the backup endorsement!

A question for you... do you have, or have you heard John Scott's "Becoming Collette" or "The Scarlet Tunic"?

Just wondering, because I do believe you would like those scores. Rather than adventure, these are dramatic romances, and really gorgeous (can't think of a more appropriate adjective). "The Mill On The Floss" is another good one, and "The Shooting Party" is also nice. I listen to these a lot and sometimes feel like too many in the film music appreciation world are missing out.

Sorry to pull your "Atlantis" thread off track...

Horay, got my copy! I absolutely LOVE this score, this and Mummy Returns have really raised excitement in me regarding the music for this yeas big summer movies. I'm already more pleased then last year when only Chicken Run truly thrilled me.

I am so pleased with this, in fact pleased is not a good enough word to sum up my joy. I have Jeron and Audacity to thank for making me a JNH nut well over a year ago now, and he's right there up top as one of my fave composers.

'The Secret Swim' cue really makes me smile, so incredibly dark and exotic, yet still with a great sense of adventure. Love it.

I now consider getting the score before seeing the film a SIN. I have done this only a few times before, Fight Club and Star Wars EP:1 are the only ones I can think of where I got em before I saw the film.

I will never ever buy a score before seeing the film, and I damn such an action.

    muwhahaha
