Sorry you don't enjoy it much, Jonathan... wish ya did. Of course, you weren't a fan of Hollow Man either.

Just saw the film.
the score in the film is very good and always appropriate. No, it's not real thematic, but then again, the main titlesuse voice overs & atmospheric music to establish mood.the score is standard Goldsmith thriller-type stuff. the tired wailing brass motif that he likes so much is there in one spot.
I rather enjoyed the music over the end credits.
after hearing it in the film, I can see how it could make an uneventful album.

Finally got the damn CD, had to go to Austin. Sure it isn't vintage Goldsmith but I'll take Goldsmith on a bad day over most of the junk that is considered movie music these days. Sure it bears resemblence to Hollow Man but ya gotta love Jerry.I had to laugh over at Filmtracks with the review Christian gave the cd. Then again I don't agree with alot of what he writes anyhow.
Here is the link: http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/along_spider.html
I think he forgot one important thing; Goldsmith is in his 70's, if Horner was in his 70's we might be a little more kinder to his self-copying style.

Ah, the age argument. So are you saying Goldsmith is going senile?

Nope, far from it. I would expect someone who has been composing for some 40+ years to eventually run out of fresh ideas unlike someone whose well ran dry in their mid 30's.

The review at Filmtracks pretty much sums up my opinion of the score.
NP: Hoosiers (It's on TV -- right now would be "The Finals.") Rudy was on right before this... spooky.

Ever since "The Mummy," I've found Christian's Goldsmith reviews to be somewhat whiny. I mean, who complains that an action/adventure score is a little too loud? Oh well. Enough of that.I watched Hoosiers tonight as well. Excellent score. I wish movies still gave Goldsmith a chance to score these kind of musical-centered finales.

What I find most bizarre and condescending about Clemmensen's review is the implicit assumption that bringing in Mark McKenzie to orchestrate would have made a difference. I personally would have been horrified if it did. Then, truly, Goldsmith would have been backsliding in Hornerite fashion.

I don't pay the slightest bit of attention to being classified "misguided" by a person who does not think Hoosiers is a good score.Okay okay... maybe the slightest bit of attention. But no more than that!

The score is quite interesting. Still growing every new listening.I read mister Clmemensen's biased review and could only laugh. But them again why bother with the comments of a person who gave 5 stars to such crap as CRIMSON TIDE?

Alright, is anyone going to add comments or thoughts about this soundtrack to the soundtrack database? That's what the thing is for, and it sort of saves comments and thoughts about soundtracks from disappearing into "the ghost message board past."For posterity, put yer thoughts here:

Yes,a push in the pool, with swimming copies of "Hoosiers" and the main theme blasting in the distance. JJH's time has come.
Jeron, I'm counting on you....

I saw the film today.Whoever did the sound mixing screwed up big time. He/She made the music sound annoying.
The score itself was always appropriate for every single scene.
Yet the music was always distracting and annoying due to its loud volume as compared with the rest of the movie's sound elements. After the movie I had to get an aspirine due to the headache I ended up with.
I think the music volume should have been turned down a bit.
During some of the loudest musical outbursts, there were even people who looked at the nearest speakers with a type of expression on their faces that seemed to say "turn the damn volume down".
As for the score, it was energetic and violent (in a good way). But I've never been much of a fan for those scores without a great theme. So I'll skip this CD.

The same thing happened to me while watching THE PEACEMAKER, an ok action movie ruined by that loud bombastic, ear-shatter obnoxious score by Hazimmer - althought I am sure some provoking ******* will pop in to give it five stars also!!
