I need to annoy some fellow "residents" of my dorm when I get up at 6:15am. The little "quad" I live in has 50% of us who like it quiet, and the other 50% are loud until 2 in the morning.

OK, OK! Two wrongs might not make a right... but I don't care!

So... What is the most annoying film music available that I can blast as a friendly wake-up call?

The Murder cue from Psycho might get them moving ... but maybe you should wait until they're in the shower.

What about "Man With A Harmonica" from Morricone's Once Upon A Time In The West blasting at full volume?

The Aliens cue mentioned above has always been one of the most irritating of all time. Add the harsh, slamming piano music in Pelican Brief. Totally inappropriate for the scene. Did not fit it at all. F-----. Best, John.

I would dig up anything from Francis Lai...Their eardrums will burst and ookie stuff will come out if you put on Hannibal Brooks.
Let's see... I almost drove fellow employees to rage when I played Night Of The Generals by Jarre. It's a personal fav of mine but I can see how the carousel-like music would drive someone nutty. A similar experience occurred when I used to run Koyanisquatsi by Philip Glass. Almost had the cops show up in riot gear for that one...
And then there is... Patton. Jerry tells a story at his concerts about how we used it against Noriega and it worked!

    Guaranteed to work:

the entire score to SUPERGIRL by Jerry Goldsmith! I love this score, but I used to play this cd constantly in the morning REALLY loud...the "whooshes" really get to people after a while. The Monster Tractor cue is great to wake up people, especially if you whistle along too I did this to my roommate freshman year, and last I heard, he was in Texas :-)

also, the conan score is great for annoying people, I remember getting in trouble by my RA for playing it at 1am really loudly

You guys all came up with good suggestions, but by far and large the most annoying cue you can play first thing in the morning is the opening minute or so from James Horner's "The Cheermeister Games" from the How the Grinch Stole Christmas promo. (up until the entrance of Chariots of Fire in that cue.) That, by far, is one of the most annoying pieces of film music ever composed. (although I love it myself) Or perhaps you can play "Ruby Rap" (is that what it's called?) from Serra's The 5th Element.

No, that's "Death Rattle", that one's annoying but not loud enough for Jonathan's idea.

"Man With A Harmonica" is the famous piece with the harmonica theme, but the e-guitar and the male chorus as well.

Jonathan, you might also want to try "Death on the Carousel" from John Williams' The Fury. It NEVER fails to give me goosebumps at the climax.

NP: Phantom Menace Ultimate (John Williams)

    Thanks for the suggestions everybody!

I've picked up a used copy of Mission to Mars, so that fine organ music will be used eventually.

I have a bunch of carousel music at home. I'll just have to bring my Nickelodeon tapes to college.

NP: What Lies Beneath, "The Getaway." -- I think this could wake people up, too!

There is a LOUD jump about halfway through the cue "A Message from the Future" in John Carpenter's excellent PRINCE OF DARKNESS.
I still have the LP(holding out for an expansion on this one, which might happen) and this still never fails to scare the fork outta me!

What, nobody's brought up Jerry Goldsmith's Planet of the Apes? Put on "The Hunt," with the clarion call and bizarre ape sounds!

    Hmmmm...

How about John Corigliano's Altered States?

The idea here I think should be to find stuff that's really good, but will drive people nuts. The point of it being really good is that if they bring it up, you can figuratively club them into submission by talking about how music written without a tonic center is more creative than standard Western musical idioms.

    Goldenthal.

    Take your pick.

Some suggestions: The wailing saxophones from "In Dreams." The brilliant Unknown Event cue from "Sphere."

If Goldenthal doesn't work, try some of Morricone's suspense music. How about the second suite from his Bulworth score? Nearly 21 minutes of dissonant strings.

NP: Morricone's "Phantom of the Opera"

Goldsmith’s AIR FORCE ONE would seem the obvious choice, but I guess you don’t want to inflict any permanent damage on your fellow residents, so I’d suggest Goldsmith’s horrendous main theme to MR BASEBALL – horrifyingly noxious though it may be, at least it isn’t quite as rabidly and virulently injurious as AIR FORCE ONE.

If you really want to get them coming after you with clubs, try the Main Title from Morricone's "Navaho Joe" with its screaming vocalist- it's so outrageous, it was even used in another film as a joke ("Election") - or another cut with an over-the-top Morricone vocal - "The Big Gundown."

Ha Ha, that reminds me of when I was a student back in the 80's. I lived in a dorm that used to be an Army Barracks, you know, with a "LONNNNNNG" corridor with about 10 rooms on each side. Two doors away from mine lived some dope-smoking rastifarian's (who always played LOUD Reggae music...surprise, surprise!!). Before I get accused of being racist, they were in fact very good friends of mine. Anyway, one night to neutralise their LOUD Reggae music during one of their more prolonged "communal pipes-of-peace sessions" I decided to put "Poltergeist" on FULL BLAST!!! Am I a sadist or what? Anyway, the track "Escape from Suburbia" suited the barracks' corridoor to a T. If you remember in the movie JoBeth Williams is trying to run to the bedroom, but the corridoor stretches further and further away...great cue by the way. The violins do an eerie glissando followed by a cacophonous bash on the percussion and muted brass. It must have really "freaked" them out during their extra-terrestrial nocturnal activities because early the next morning, one of the rastifarian's, looking BLEARY-eyed as if returning from a HEAVY trip ( and I'm not talking package holidays!!) knocked on my door and with a nervous tremour in his voice asked me..."What the **** were you playing last night"....HEE, HEE!!!! Now if I was really on the ball at the time I should have replied "Playing???..I wasn't in my room all last night!" Now that would really have FREAKED him!! Gae

    Bringing into my mind...
Two of the most annoying movie score "songs":

"RUBER" from The Magic Sword: Quest for Camelot
The annoying music by David Foster
The annoying lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager
The annoying lead vocal by Gary Oldman

"IN THE DARK OF THE NIGHT" from Anastasia
The inappropriate music by Stephen Flaherty
The silly lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
The quite good Christopher-Lloyd-imitating lead vocal by Jim Cummings
The totally obnoxious other vocals by the Creature Cast
