So far, I haven't heard a single NOTE of film music in the Olympics, and I've seen quite a lot.

Basically, I think it is because the background "noise" (including the not-so-noisy fim music excerpts) is mixed extremely low in the Norwegian broadcast. Additionally, Norwegian commentators are traditioned in a constant flow of commentaries (run-on sentences), and there is very little space inbetween to direct the aural attention to the event itself. Sad....

Oh yeah? Well, we still got medal count on you, with 3 more golds.

Oops. I shouldn't say anything, that might change. Oh well. The Olympics are all about fun and friendly competition. And a crap-load of money.

Does anyone know which music was played while Cathy Freeman waited for the cauldron/ufo to go up to form the torch? Was is original music? Thanks.

I heard it was something by Berlioz.

Just watched the first of several closing montages in the last 20 minutes of the Olympics. The one I'm asking about is the one they showed about 11:45-50 EST. The one right before the Winter Preview (that used Robin Hood). It included the theme from Dragonheart, but the music I really want to know about are the two pieces played before that. One of them was played at the very end of the Cradle Will Rock trailer and I never found out what it was. Does anyone know? Also, what was the gorgeous piece played before that one? Really amazing music. Someone let me know.

    Watching the closings now.

The piece about the Asian immigrant who had the idea about having all the athletes enter into the arena together, not seperated by country was underscored with the Molly Flanders score.

I heard 3 scores used yesterday...

For Love Of The Game (for an athlete bio) <- was wondering when they would integrate this beautiful Poledouris score

Everest (played quite a bit, in conjunction with Dragonheart, before and after)

    Drangonheart (closing ceremonies retrospective)

So, the piece that Stephen is asking about could be Everest (an IMAX score). If you're not familiar with it, check out some sound samples. It really did sound great for the moment at hand!

I checked out some Everest sound clips and it doesn't sound like what I heard. Before Dragonheart is played, there are 2 beautiful pieces, one of which was played at the end of the Cradle Will Rock trailer (I know, I'm repeating myself)...I'm pretty sure it's not Everest and I know it's not Dragonheart or Dragon, because I know what those sound like. Arghhh! It's frustrating not to be able to get a hold of a piece of music you fall in love with... Oh, well. If you have any ideas, lemme know. Thanks.

Well, they played Jaws when Greg Norman came out of the Shark!

Pretty obvious that was going to happen.

I must say, I loved the closing ceremony far more than the opening one. I'm hoping they release a CD of the music used in that. There is already one for the Opening Ceremony available. I'm not too sure if it's available overseas though. I'm getting my copy next week!

So, has anyone found out this music by Berlioz that the orchestra played during the lighting of the cauldron at Sydney Olympics yet?
