Did not see this on the board, but I ran across a 2004 release on Deutsche Grammaphon featuring Ann-Sophie Mutter and the London Symphony Orch. conducted by Previn. It also has the Tchaikovsky concerto as well.

This is a pretty fabulous recording of the Korngold. It's definitely among the finest out there. It is helped by a warmer recording sound. The violin is placed a little close but it really lets you hear everything clearer.

Previn recorded this with the same orchestra and Gil Shaham several years ago with equally fine results.

It's a great concerto with fine themes and virtuosic writing. This recording really lets you appreciate Korngold's orchestration more than most.

I didn't really like this Mutter/Previn recording. I don't know why. I never listen to it.

I have a radio recording of a Gil Shaham/Montreal Symphony performance and that one I love.

The sound on the Mutter is fine, but it's the performance that has something I just don't like, and I can't really put my finger on it.

You don't like the fact that Previn is banging Mutter.

There is another recording with Chantal Julliet (?) I think with Montreal?

Yeah, it's a little creepy. He's like what, 40 years older?

I think the Tchaikovsky on that disc is too mannered. Maybe the playing is a bit too angular for you in this interpretation. The orchestra playing seemed better here than in the version they recorded with Shaham and Previn.

Any guy who can score (no pun intended) with a girl 40 years his junior is my hero. But it's ironic since Previn sided with his ex-wife Mia Farrow against Woody when Woody was doing teenagers. Just goes to show you that life is complex.
