Alexander Borentine Symphony #2 forget what minor itr was in. Only heard the name and piece i have no idea if i am spelling it correctly. The local radio station plays classicla music in the morning. Listen to it on the way home.

You do? Hehe. Justin needs help.

I think you are talking about Alexander Borodin
The symphony is in B minor.

Borodin, from my point of view, was a talented composer, but the success of his music, had to do with his relationship with Rimsky-Korsakov, who surely taught him how to improve his composition skills.

His second symphony is wonderful. Very epic, and orchestral. The scherzo is unbelievable, and the finale is wow wow wow amazing.

Film music fans who like orchestral stuff would surely love this symphony.

I recommend you to get the RCA cd with the conduction of Loris Tjeknvorian. It has some other of his compositions and some Prince Igor stuff too.

    Was it helpful?

    Rach

I was curious as to whether Justin had ever made purchase of this recording. Any impressions? As for myself I purchased this months ago and really enjoy it. I heard the 2'nd symphony by Borodin several times on the radio but knew nothing of the other works. I have to say that the Steppes of Central Asia and the Overture to Prince Igor are just as fine. I understand Tjeknavorian also recorded Borodin's 1'st and 3'rd symphonies but alas they are unavailable at present. I think I paid 7 or 8 dollars for the Borodin recording,a bargain if you ask me.

As far as Borodin is concerned, the only set I have, and the only one I'll ever need is a 2-CD set from Sony Classical.

Andrew Davis conducts the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

It has all three symphonies, In the Steppes of Central Asia, the Nocturne, and the best Prince Igor Overture and Polovtsian Dances I have heard.
