gotta love those Beethoven sonatas.Robert Schumann's works, such as Carnivale, are exquisite.

I was virtually raised on the Mozart piano concerti, and my loyalty is still first to them--stunning, vibrant, full of momentum, tender, grand, mystic--despite my later introduction to the Beethoven repertoire. I have several recordings of most of the 27 concerti, but the only complete set I have is the one on London by Ashkenazy: sublime. But if you are asking about the solo piano repertoire, I'd again say the Mozart sonatas, but that's because I'm not too familiar with anyone else's solo piano works.

Yeh, I agree with Camillu the Rach Piano Concerto 2 is my all time favourite piano concerto. Must have heard it a couple of hundred times but it still sounds as fresh! Also his Rhapsody on a Theme of Pagannini..wonderful piece. Most of the standard repertoire concertos are my faves e.g. Grieg in A minor, Tchaikovsky in Bb minor (check out his unfinished 3rd concerto..what a cadenza in that one!! I learnt to play that years ago, nearly killed myself in the process!) Schumann in A minor. Also check out the Prokofiev concertos (5 in all!) The 1st mov of the 2nd piano concerto in G minor has an incredible 5 minute cadenza...wow!! I tried to play that one and gave up! For those into dissonant music, get that one! The 2nd movement is like monster music for a 50s B-Movie!
Its great stuff though. The Beethoven concertos are cool also, especially the slow movement of "The Emperor concerto"..lovely piece! Although the 3rd movement never seems to end! Oh, how could I forget of course... Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue is a classic, also his Piano Concerto in F probably ranks along side the Rach in popularity for me...another piece I never tire of listening to..also I learnt to play the 2nd movement of that one and even did my own orchestral backing on Cakewalk to play to! Also, check out his 2nd rhapsody
(Rhapsody with Rivets?) which is superb with the usual gorgeous Gershwin melodies. What a tragedy his early death was!! What have I missed? Solo piano music...Debussy.."Clair de Lune"( used in "Frankie & Johnny") "The Girl with the Flaxen hair" "La plus que lente" Gershwin "3 Preludes" "The Gershwin songbook" Satie "3 Gymnopedies & 3 Gnossiennes" Bach Preludes & Fugues, Franz Liszt "The Mephisto Waltz" (used in the film) "Dante sonata...l'apres de Lecture de Dante" "Hungarian Rhapsody in C# Minor" (used in "Who framed Roger rabbit") Sonata in Bb minor ( orchestral version was used in the old "Flash Gordon" series I think) Chopin piano music of course e.g. Raindrop prelude ( used in "Shine") Anyway, and a few hundred others that I cant be bothered to write down!!
