This question relates to all the Alamo movies:

    1. The Alamo-1960
    2. The Last Command-1955
    3. Man from the Alamo-1953
    4. Thirteen Days of Glory-1986
    5. Davy Crockett-Disney series-Davy Crockett at the Alamo

    A. Alec Baldwin, Brian Keith, and James Arness as Travis, Crockett and Bowie

    B. Richard Carlson, Arthur Hunnicutt and Sterling Hayden as Travis, Crockett and Bowie

    C. Glenn Ford and Julia Adams in this one

    D. Quinn Big Boy Williams and Chill Wills provide most of the comedy in this one

    E. Crockett's sidekick, George Russell played by Buddy Ebsen had major part in this one

    F. Features the story of Louis Moses Rose and his escape from the Alamo and remainder of his life

New movie due out here in town on April 5th. Supposed to be more historically accurate than all the others based on newer info and diaries and letters of people at the battle and eyewitnesses.

    John.

Bit out of my depth here, John - not really my genre, but I'll have a go.

I think I did actually see MAN FROM ALAMO - was that the Glenn Ford one?

The Alec Baldwin one must be THIRTEEN DAYS OF GLORY. 1986 movie, has to be.

Was LAST COMMAND the Richard Carlson one?

I'm now on even shakier ground - could THE ALAMO itself be the one with Big-Balls Williams?

So maybe the Disney series was the story of LM Rose...

That leaves Buddy Ebsen as the red herring.

    Do I get a zero?

    LOL. Laughing here.

Graham, you did fairly well on it. Will wait to give answer until someone else also has a stab at it.

Being from Texas and interested in history all my life and being a history teacher, I was naturally into these movies and read many books on it. New one out now is good too: Lone Star Nation.

Saw the Alamo in Oct 1960 at the theatre downtown in Ft. Worth. Crowd was all the way around the street. Ran for 16 weeks there. Texas was about the only place in America where this happened. No interest in most of rest of country, of course.

Saw the Last Command in White Settlement at a theatre that burned down. Never showed more than 5 Mexicans in any one scene-low budget. Also later on TV.

The Disney series most people our age saw in America. Three Fess Parker films. Davy Crockett-frontiersman, Davy Crockett and the River Boat Pirates, DAvy Crockett at the Alamo. Saw one of these at same theatre in White SEttlement, the rest on Wonderful World of Disney later on.

Have seen the 1960 Alamo film many times since.

Saw the Thirteen DAys one once. Kinda sorta funny. But more accurate in some ways than the others.

Saw MAn from Alamo once on TV.

Looking forward to the new one. Supposed to be more accurate than rest. We'll see.

    John.

Well, I do remember Buddy Ebsen with Fess Parker. Loved the Disney series. Couldn't believe Disney let them die at the Alamo. (Just a kid then.)

The U.S. release date is April 9, you must be talkin' about the premier in San Antone. I've been anticipating this movie with mixed emotions, as you may recall. So far, the Wayneamo is my favorite version. Recently bought "Gone to Texas," which interestingly gave more screen time to the Texian attack and capture of the Alamo than to the Mexican attack and capture that most movies focus on. That was okay, 'cause the focus was on Sam Houston -- making the Battle of San Jacinto the climax. So far it's been the best depiction of that battle I've seen yet.

Another movie (rarely mentioned in Texas) that portrays the Alamo is "James Mitchner's Texas." Excrement.

More trivia -- name the actors that played Houston in those two movies.

Well Marc, I dont remember in one of them, but Sam Elliot played him in that one. Was it Stacy Keach in the other?

    John.

Yes, you are right. Very good.

What's your take on the tricorne hat Dennis Quaid wears as Houston in the new one? Or have you seen those trailers yet?
