Lou, Whatever you do, dont play "Satan's School for Girls" at your Weekly Film Club or else they'll leave in droves!!

    Then again, they probably wont..

    Mysterious Island (just arrived)

    I've bought

    20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
The Day the Earth Stood Still
    Ernest Scared Stupid

(the last one was a $6 WalMart deal and it's a childhood thing...)

I'll say that watching 20,000 Leagues at its 2.55:1 aspect ratio on a 4:3 30" TV set was a bit, umm, small. Still beats P&S, of course, so I should probably stop bitching.

I haven't watched The Day the Earth Stood Still yet.

NP: Battle of Britain (Sir Walton version)

    Lou:

Did Columbia release a DVD of HEROES OF TELEMARK? Great score by Malcolm Arnold. Is is mono or stereo? I recently picked up DAVID COPPERFIELD, with Arnold's score, for $4.88 at WalMart.

Recently I picked up ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA and THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, [Elmer's only Oscar winning score, but far from his best.] on DVD. Planning to pick up GANGS OF NEW YORK, tomorrow. Sadly, without Elmer's score, but the historical backdrop to the film fascinates me.

    B.

My DVD of Telemark is from Denmark, whatever region that is. I acquired it off of Ebay. I haven't played it yet as I'm still trying to decide which of two all region players with Pal converters and XY scan to buy. I should be buying one soon and then I hope to see this lbx. I didn't know Copperfield was available so cheap.

    "The Terror"
... a Roger Corman AIP production from 1963 starring a VERY young Jack Nicholson and a VERY old Boris Karloff.
I picked this up from the cheapie "2 for 10 pounds" DVD bin and I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed the film. Its the sort of Late Night movie that I used to look forward to as a teenager. Sure it now seems dated and there are holes in it the size of a crater but the movie is still fun, has an interesting story, great sets, good acting by two Legends of the screen and a nice atmospheric score by Ronald Stein (any relationship to Herman Stein?) Apparently, for budgetary reasons the movie was shot in 6 days using the same sets of another Corman production of the time "The Raven".
My favourite scene is when Karloff answers the door of his castle for the first time to a lost Nicholson.

    The dialogue roughly goes....

Karloff: "You'll forgive me. I did not hear you knocking as I was at my Devotions"

Nicholson: "But Sir, I knocked loud enough to Wake the Dead"

The slight smirk on Karloff's face after this last line is just priceless and is a wonderful "in joke" for his fans which sums up his career in one gesture!!
