OOOps...I accidentally posted this in "The Junkyard" but I wanted it here in "The Just Movies" section....sorry for the double post! For about the umpteenth time I ended up watching some of "The Time Machine" on TCM today...definately Russell Garcia's finest hour in my opinion! Anyway, at the very end of the film for those who dont know it we have the final scene outside the inventor George's home. Imagine it, the housekeeper Mrs. Watchett has just closed the front door and the camera pulls out to a lovely Christmas scene as we witness the lights in the house going out one by one alla "The Waltons". The ground floor light is the first to go off and then a couple of seconds later the first upstairs light and then the next until the house is in total darkness etc...cue "The End". The only problem with the scene is that Mrs. Pratchett would have had to have sprinted up to the top of the stairs to have accomplished this featin a few seconds! Being the elderly lady that she was I dont think she would have achieved this even if she was a prankster and wanted to fool us all!!
What other mistakes or unintentionally silly moments have you noticed in films?Gae

You could write several books on the mistakes in movies (and they have
). I noticed one today watching The Terminator. When the Terminator goes to Sarah's house and kills her roommate, her roommate falls to the floor after being shot, and hits the phone, knocking it off the hook. No more than 15 seconds later, the phone rings with Sarah on the other line and she talks to the machine. Now, with the phone off the hook, it shouldn't have rang (especially back in that time, when residences [i]rarely[/o] had two lines.
Or isn't this what you were talking about?

Yep, thats a good one Kevin, thanks. I mean you couldn't even imagine that Arnie may have had the decency to put the phone back on the hook off camera could you?
More please!!

What about that guy hiding behind a door when Ripley runs through the spaceship corridors in Alien? You can't see him unless you do a frame-by-frame advance on the DVD, and then only if you know he's there; Ridley Scott mentions him in his commentary track.

Thanks Marian, I'll check that one out on the DVD. That reminds me of how many times you see reflections of the crew in a window or one of the worst ones is seeing the BOOM mike at the top of the screen. I seem to remember "The Mephisto Waltz" had this happening so many times when Alan Alda was talking to Curt Jurgens or Jaqueline Bissett...one or the other!!I've just remembered another real blunder in Jaws the Revenge with Michael Caine. In some of the underwater shots that use the mechanical shark Bruce, you can clearly see all the mechanism and cables at the bottom of the shark in some scenes. Its awful to think that no-one spotted this and allowed the movie to go released as it was. It was a pretty awful film anyway so the producers probably couldn't be bothered to tidy it up!

Regarding boom mikes, you can't always blame director and camera man. Often enough, they're NOT visible in the original aspect ratio, but re-appear when the film is shown open matte, i.e. without the black bars. I haven't seen Jaws/Revenge, but perhaps it could be the same thing there? As for reflections in windows...the best still is the camera man mirrored in C3PO's head on the conveyour belt in ESB. Nearly impossible to see, and only if you know about it. By the way, I'm always amazed by the scenes in the mirrored hall in Branagh's Hamlet - there are mirrors EVERYWHERE, and the camera moves around very freely, with hardly any cuts - and yet you never see it in the mirrors.

Justin, thanks for the link but I want people on the board to post their personal experiences too. Its just too easy to find everything and anything on the Net and it impersonalises everything. So lets keep this thread going!!Gae
