I've recently been searching the net for places that have been used in famous films over the years. it gave me the idea to start a quiz if anyone is interested. The rules are, the location must be for a "classic" movie that most people have seen and not just any new film that has come out. A link to a picture of the location would also be a plus.

Here's a nice easy one to start with...

Which famous film was shot here and what other films has it appeared in..I only know of two movies.

The Bradbury Building, 304 South Broadway, downtown LA

Blade Runner was shot there. I remember seeing it in another film, but the name escapes me.

That Bradbury Bldg also looks very familiar to me. It might have been in a movie or two on Lifetime. One of those about a psychic or something who witnessed a killing in the building long ago. Cannot recall name of the TV film. John.

I'm with you JOhn. "Wolf" was definitely not the movie I was thinking about. This is driving me crazy, or it would be if I weren't so busy.

Apparently, the Bradbury building has been used for several films of the past. I found these quotes at websites:-

Apart from Blade Runner, the Bradbury has featured in many films like "Double Indemnity", "Marlowe", "D.O.A.", "Chinatown", "Wolf" and "Lethal Weapon 4" "Murder in the First" and TV shows "City of Angels", "The Outer Limits" and "Banyon".

Many of you have seen the interior of the completed Bradbury Building, now a landmark in the history of architecture, in such fantastic films as BLADERUNNER, WOLF (Jack Nicholson), NIGHT WALKER (Bloch), DEMON WITH A GLASS HAND (TV's Outer Limits) and countless other productions.

Its an amazing building....More photos here

Sorry Marc. I should have said that you need to "cut & paste" the link directly into your browsers' address bar as Geocities doesn't allow direct links to there pages.

Here's what I did. I clicked on the link (which is not a URL and cannot be used as an address in my browser). When I got the "This page not available," I back-spaced on the address until I got to the slash after photos and hit enter. Then I scrolled down the page to "highcannons."

I'm not a Hammerhead and I don't remember this "cottage" in any of my favorite Hammer productions (The Quatermass series). But it does look familiar and reminds me of the opening scene of "True Lies."

Gae, my head shall be forever shaped like a Hammer. However, due to blunt scissors and unsticky sticky stuff, I could neither cut nor paste, and what Marc did had my caveman's neurons perplexed in the extreme. Cottage? Hammer? I see no cottage. That's because you're not looking, you fool. Superstitious idiot. Okay, okay, let him go. Hurry up father, it'll be dark soon. My God, look at the size of that bat.

What system are you Guys running? Windows 1642? All I can say is that when I "right click" on the link, I get the option to either "cut & paste" or "copy shortcut". I use the latter in this case and then I paste the text into the address bar at the top of the browser..i.e. where the http address usually is. I press enter and "Hey Presto" I'm taken directly to the photo of HighCannons. Try it out...it should work!!
Graham, you'll definately know this one. I would say its more of a "mansion" or "country house" rather than a "cottage" as Marc suggested. I was amazed when I found the picture and realised what it was and what film it appeared in.

Well, Gae, that worked. I didn't know about that trick, guess my cranial operating system (Marc 4.9) has now been upgraded (I'll wait till next month to issue the official 5.0 version). And I was being sarcastic (should have inserted a )when I described it as a "cottage." It is anything but.

Sorry Gae, but I really don't know what "right click" means. I hate computers. I work with pencil and paper. I broke into a cold sweat today when I was told that it would be a help if I could paste my current job onto a diskette. But if it's Hammer and something bigger than a cottage, is it Peter Cushing's house in THE MUMMY? You know the one, big garden, bevelled windows. Christopher Lee broke through them.

Thanks for the effort anyway Graham.
Basically, you should have 2 buttons on your mouse..one on the left and one on the right. I fyou click the right hand one "right click" it should give you the options mentioned above. To be on the safe side I'll send you the picture by E-Mail if thats o.k. Its only small. I've still got faith that you'll get the answer...unless Timmer beats you to it. Timmer where are you?

Thanks Gae, got the pic. Now, I'm not sure, but I think it could be Mocata's house from THE DEVIL RIDES OUT. Reminds me of the scene where all those old cars pulled up outside for the party.

Graham, I knew you wouldn't let me down!! Correct. As far as I can tell it is the very same house. The only thing missing is the Astronomy Dome at the top which was put in with effects. I actually found this picture as a location to a Gerry Anderson series..I think "Protectors or Project or something...cant remember? As soon as I saw it I knew that it was Mocata's home.

    Must rush Gae

Ah, I was right! I wonder what that Gerry Anderson prog was. I get the feeling that THE PROTECTORS was indeed Gerry Anderson. Robert Vaughan, Nyree Dawn Porter perhaps? And an end title song that went "Dang - Dang - De Dang - Dang... IN THE AVENUES AND ALLEYWAYS " (really belted out).

Wow graham, I remember that song too!! The guy sounded like he was doing an impression of Tom Jones. Anyway, the location was used in The Protectors after all. Check it out Here

Just click this one...it should work!

P.S. While you're looking at this page have a look at some of the other locations. I'm sure that The Church of St. Mary The Virgin Church Hill, Harefield was used in another Hammer film, maybe "Taste the Blood of Dracula". Obviously. Black Park has been used for several Hammer Film locations too.

One question. "Who Dares Wins" starring Lewis Collins was on BBC One last night. I'm sure that the Ambassador's Embassy where the action took place is Heatherden Hall at Pinewood Studios...what do you think? Look at the photo, change the front porch a little bit and its almost identical to the Embassy in the Film. Also, the Hall and gardens look suspicially like some of the shots used in Bond films like "From Russia with Love" (Spectre's training camp) and "Goldfinger" (the end scene between Bond and PussyGalore ..."This is no time to be rescued!!")

Well Gae, I enjoyed looking at those pics. Unfortunately I don't know what films any of them were used in, except Mocata's house from THE DEVIL RIDES OUT. I'm sure though that some of those modern buildings must have been used in Hammers like DRAC AD 1972, SATANIC RITES OF DRAC etc. Don't know about the TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRAC church.

    Over to the brainy bunch!
