I'm still happy that Jennifer Connelly got her award, but where on earth did my little "salute" for her disappear ? And if it was because of Shaun R, then I'm angry. I do love and appreciate the actress Jennifer Connelly's talents sincerely, and I hope even Mr. Rutherford will understand that.

I think she's a better actress than most who have breezed by because of their looks, but my original post was about how sad it was that she has to now look like the rest of them (Paltrow, et al) to be accepted.

    It's a damn shame.

And if you think she's attractive now, you must have never seen anything of hers before A Beautiful Mind and Requiem For A Dream. You'd certainly be singing a different tune.

Right right! Of course getting these guys to watch Phenomena, or Creepers-depending on your local video store, would be like pulling teeth, eh Pete!

"I love you, I love you all!"

And if your REALLY into her, check out Once Upon A Time In America....of course, y'all should have seen that film by now anyway!

    Hu-zah!

Love that film! Although she is, of course, very young in it. I remember when I first saw it I was struck by her (not in a dodgy way), not realising it was the same girl I'd grown up with in Labyrinth, which was my first ever favorite film. I used to go round to me friends house every weekend, & he had it on video, & we'd watch it. She certainly had an effect at a particular time in my life.
I didn't see Phenomena until much later. But it's been really great these last few years with the like of Dark City & Requiem to see her prove herself as a really great actress. That was the only win I don't begrudge BM.

Yes, the expanded OUATIAmerica is THE way to go, for the sound quality alone, not to mention the new tracks.

I always found the age difference of Jen a bit disturbing though...OUATIA was released in 83 and she's, oh around 12 or so there right? I know it was a long shoot, but how long? Then Labyrinth comes along in '85 and she's all grown up! Then Phenomena, and she's REALLY grown up! Anyone see what I'm getting at here? Time to head over to imdb and clear this up a bit....always been quite perplexing to me

...and dammit, why are my posts, and the new posts taking so long to show up!

Didn't she shoot Phenomena in 85 before Labyrinth in 86?
She was born in December 1970. I think if I recall rightly she was 14 when she shot Phenomena, which would be right if it was shot in 84 (it was released Jan 85). So if OUATIM was shot in 82/3, then she'd be 12 going on 13 in it. And Labyrinth was released in June '86 so would have been shot that winter, making her 15 going on 16. I'm sure some of that made sense somewhere.

SHAUN, I'd like to remind you that an elephant and a Ken NEVER forget things (but apparently a Shaun does ). Here's what you, Shaun, wrote about a half year ago when I praised Jen for her underestimated performance on THE ROCKETEER:

    ***************

    "Bravo to Ken!

Jennifer Connelly, who is currently my wife, would like to thank you for your kind comments regarding her underrated-ness.

The Rocketeer's "Flying Circus" cue is one of the most exciting Horner's ever composed. Goosebumps every time!

    Shaun"

    ***************

    So, Shaun
    - I really have loved and appreciated Ms. Connelly's talents from early on, seen even ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA and LABYRINTH (where she, unfortunately, doesn't have the glamour and electricity which she had on THE ROCKETEER). After THE ROCKETEER, I've watched every single available film of hers on video.

But I do agree with you, Shaun, that Jen has lost quite a lot of that charm of hers by losing almost all that beautiful "roundness" and by keeping her hair nowadays almost always in a tight hairdo (- let's face it, when speaking of appearances, Jen has quite big ears and a Julie Andrews -nose, and both of these features only get highlighted when there's no ebony-black free-flowing hair of hers in the background... ). But she still has magic in her, and most importantly, talent. In my opinion, she should have been given an extra Oscar alone for the best entrée in the entire movie history in A BEAUTIFUL MIND - just watch the classroom scene again and tell me isn't it just simply magic what she is able to do in such a tiny scene, in most simple ways. Magnificent. Fun and witty. Magic.

So, Shaun - I hope I am now "singing a different tune"

...Just remember that an elephant and a Ken never forget.

I would have dropped happily dead if Jen had appeared to the Oscar gala in the white dress she wore on THE ROCKETEER, with her hair open. With that, she alone could have brought the long-lost elegance back to the gala which turned out to be a turning point in many ways - a pity she didn't (- her dress was, unfortunately, quite horrible...)

(...But who am I to judge people by their appearances; the only thing I care about my own look is my hair - this big round face of mine would look horrible if my hair weren't in its proper place ...)

to Ken for digging that up.

I was merely pointing out that her roundness (thanks for the word) is what made her stand out from the pack. Now she looks cut in half, and I can't believe that people think she looks attractive. She looks ill.

Yeah she does look a bit emaciated lately, which was a shock to me, since I hadn't seen her for awhile....but my love of her from the 80's will never die!!! Please go get Phenomena people, it's a fun movie

Fuzz tone bass by Bill Wyman, Iron Maiden's greatest tune(Flash Of The Blade), maggots, killer chimp with enlarged ass and straight razor, psycho mutant boy, bug-fu, spear-fu, telephone-fu, pill-fu,wheelchair-fu, and of course the supra hot Jen
Can't go wrong, it's a fun Argento pic! Get the expanded 111min. DVD!!

NP: As The World Falls Down(David Bowie) Playing this song again is the only reason I came back to profess more love for Mrs. C

    SEAN,

although I still don't like Jen's performance on LABYRINTH as much as in THE ROCKETEER, the song "As the World Falls Down" has a never-ending thrilling effect for me too - the song embodies everything Jennifer Connelly represents herself, not her irritating Sarah character... All the beauty, all the sensuality, all the enchantment, all the electricity... ah...

    "...falling, falling, falling..."

This is a small matter... She just needs to eat, is all. And I personally will volunteer for the job of feeding her little Club sandwich wedges as she sits in my lap and... Oh, daydreaming. Sorry.

She looks like the damn-near-two-dimensional Lara Flynn Boyle now.

    Blech.

I also noticed that my beloved Kate Winslett is getting skinnier, too. I HATE Hollywood for this.

Jen only needs to do one little thing to be supra hot again.....just let your hair down honey! It doesn't look good pinned up!!!!

PS...everytime I come into this damn thread, that yearning electric bass from the aforementioned Bowie song starts up...starting to annoy me! Huzzah!

Okay, Shaun, now I'm certainly singing ANOTHER totally different tune - I just saw a summary of the Oscars telecast, and Jennifer C
    - THE MAGIC IS GONE !!!!

She has grown up or something - she just don't have that electricity in her anymore; in other words, she NEEDS a director or a script to be beautiful and electrifying... A big pity.

    KEN

...But what the hell - I can always return to the times of THE ROCKETEER, HOT SPOT, and MULHOLLAND FALLS to get a glance of the true Jen that I have always loved. Thank God for video and DVD !!

A shame all I can put up is my thumb.....

I have 3 words that say it all: The Hot Spot.

I didn't think much of her as an actress in A Beautiful Mind, basically she won the award for having a nice bum when she leaned out the window and told off some hard hats.

But, as with so many of the men posting here, I don't really need JC to act to appreciate her. One of the things about movies is that they often show you exceptionally beautiful people and sometimes that's enough in itself.

In other cases, Britney Spears et al., it's too much, so it helps to have a little extra, doesn't it?
