The DVD hasn't been announced yet - probably later this spring, though.

To follow up, The Digital Bits has a new rumor today: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/rumormill.html

    quote:
We've got very reliable word that when 20th Century Fox bows the Hughes Brothers' From Hell to DVD in May, it will be available in a limited edition 2-disc set, that will feature tons of exclusive material. Word is that the Hughes Brothers have been working closely with Fox to create lots of special content for this edition, including some 23 deleted scenes, an alternate ending, a specially remixed version of the soundtrack and more. You can also expect the usual anamorphic widescreen video and dual Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio options. Then, after a short availability window, the limited edition will disappear, to be replaced by a more basic, single-disc edition of the film.

I wonder if by "specially remixed version of the soundtrack", they mean that Trevor Jones / Marilyn Manson thingy that Jones always wanted to do?

Intersting it's mentioned as a "limited" 2 disc release at the Bits. This seems to be the way Fox is heading now as Cast Away and Planet of the Apes (Burton's) are being withdrawn in June to make way for single disc SEs (this on top of the pan & scan releases Fox are putting out)...

ID4 is also getting pulled in June but that's due to the moratorium plans for the Five Star badged releases.

Whatever the case, I don't know if I am keen on them making their 2 disc SEs "limited".

Since I usually buy them the day they come out I won't be too bothered by it...

Better than no Special Editions at all!

My understanding, based on DVDFile.com's reporting, was that these new single-disc editions were just being reissues- but they didn't say anything about PULLING the current 2-disc SEs from the market..... either way, get 'em while you can!!

Dan, do you have acces to Image Entertainment's website? The whole site used to be open to all but recently had areas closed of for suppliers only. Some of our members on the Home Theatre Forum have retailer's access however and this news was raised recently.

The following was part of a recent Image stock update to suppliers:

    quote:

Fox will be discontinuing the following titles on June 1, 2002:
    Abyss (Special Edition) FOX2000008DVD
    Alien (Special Edition) 4110430DVD
    Alien 3 4110432DVD
    Alien Resurrection 4110433DVD
    Aliens (Special Edition) 4110431DVD
    Cast Away (Special Edition) FOX2001790DVD
    Independence Day (Special Edition) FOX2000045DVD
Planet Of The Apes (Special Edition/ 2001) FOX2002896DVD
    Romeo + Juliet (1996) 4110421DVD
    Speed 4109164DVD
    Speed 2: Cruise Control 4110400DVD
    X-Men (Special Edition) FOX2000640DVD

I don't think the above will be withdrawn from June 1st, just no longer printed from that day onward, so when stores become out of stock they'll stay that way.

Speed, there is a 5 Star Coming (same for Alien) so those are no big issues. I can only assume the Alien sequels are being discontinued to allow for re-issues with Alien 5 Star later this year.

Speed 2 I am guessing will get a DTS/DD 16x9 re-issue when Speed 5 Star streets. Romeo + Juliet has an SE coming. Cast Away, Abyss and Apes are all part of what we discussed above. Xmen I can't explain, and ID4 5 Star is going or moratorium.

I was impressed with Apes DVD when I saw it at Fox last Sept, but I hate the movie... I may just buy it after all now.....ugh, I'm such a collector's edition whore.

    And another thing......

You can't get the old, 2-disc Patton anymore. Just the shitty, one-disc version.
