Taking a cue from Kross, here's a poll I'll start- Best Screenplay 2000. Please keep in mind, there is a difference between good scripts and bad scripts and mediocre scripts.

    My picks:
    Susannah Grant - Erin Brockovich
William Broyles, Jr. - Cast Away
    M. Night Shyamalan - Unbreakable
    Mike King - Finding Forrester
Jeffrey Price & Peter S. Seaman - The Grinch

Overall, I feel this year has been pretty weak. Last year was a lot better...I have only seen three films this year that I thought even deserved a nomination for screenplay (note: I haven't seen Requiem for a Dream or Shadow of the Vampire, both of which look like they could be possible screenplay nominees)
    Best Screenplay:

    Wonder Boys-Steven Kloves
    Quills-Doug Wright
    Traffic-Stephen Gaghan

A wonderfully written film is YOU CAN COUNT ON ME. Very well written, deserving praise.

The ultimate question is, do you judge by READING the script, or by assuming what you saw on screen was exactly as written in the final/shooting draft?

A.M.P.A.S do the latter, which shocked me, though suddenly made it all too clear why American Beauty won for best screenplay (which works better on film thanks to Mendes' alterations made during production and editing. Cut that god awful ending they shot!).

I know I'm all over this one this year, but ALMOST FAMOUS by Cameron Crowe.

And I second the noms for WONDER BOYS and YOU CAN COUNT ON ME.
