Just heard that Sam Neill has agreed to star in Jurassic Park 3, and that Laura Dern is rumored to be in talks to come back as well. If this news is true, this will be great. Though I loved The Lost World as it is, I missed those two very much. Sam Neill is one of the greatest actors ever, and one I never tire of watching. I only hope and pray that this news is true.

(And even if it's not, I'm still going to see the film!)

    Won't save to movie.

And for Lost World... Spielberg's direction was amazing, William's score is great, the dinosaurs looked fantastic... but I just couldn't stand the script (what script?).

I loved the first one (can't wait for the DVD later this summer, I can already imagine the T-Rex roaring in my room ), but after LW, I have little trust in #3.

Well, I would't say the first one had much of a script, either. But I liked how both were different: the first was sort of a fantasy/adventure, and the second was more of an action/adventure.

Oh, well. I loved both and can't wait for the third.

Hm, actually I think the first one didn't have so little of a script. But maybe only because I read the novel before watching it - which of course had me disappointed in the movie at first, because the novel is so much better, but after repeated viewings, I really like JP, except for some jokes of the sort which Spielberg likes to include nowadays... the scene where the T-Rex eats the character sitting on the toilet totally ruins the tension of the sequence. In the novel, this part is really frightening (no toilet here), but the scene in the movie is just a forced laugh.

I really liked how Spielberg forced a laugh out of making the lawyer a disgusting person. I mean... plenty of people are *ssholes, but I think feeding them to a dinosaur is a bit of an extreme reaction...

Not the lawyers I've known, Mr. Buckler.

This movie might be salvageable if they gave it to a real director (i.e., not Joe Johnston). An actual script might be nice too. JURASSIC PARK got away with its middling script because we were seeing things we never had before -- THE LOST WORLD failed (not commercially, I know) because we'd seen it all by then.

I have no idea what they can even do with the concept at this point -- you gave me that assignment, I'd come up a total blank. Turn the dinosaurs loose in a space station, I guess.

Please give the scoring duties to a real composer. I can see it now, Aliens like music for the Raptors which would be a rip-off of Goldsmith's Alien music in the first place. Oh well Horner will be able to sleep well knowing he has permission to rip-off Williams legally this time.

Yup! It's official. Read confirmation that Sam Neill will indeed appear in JP3. Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum are still in negotiations. Though the plot is unknown, the film will take place between JP and The Lost World, and Universal also that shooting could start as early as the last week of July, again in Kauai(sp?)

    Can't wait!

Its a "Mid-quel"?!?! There sure ARE things I never dreamt of in my philosophy!

Why didn't they just do an actual sequel?

Apparently, it'll be so they don't have to explain why Neill and Dern (if she comes back) weren't in The Lost World.

This is a PHENOMENALLY stupid idea. It'd only be halfway interesting if Neill and Dern get eaten, and THAT'S why they didn't make it to THE LOST WORLD.

Aw, Rocco, don't forget that Goldblum's and Attenborough's character both appear in Lost World, although they die in the original novel. Not in the original movie, but if the LW novel has the same story as the movie, the two main characters have to be zombies.

NP: Lost in Space (Broughton) - Did anybody notice that short quotation of Herrmann's serpent motif (from 12th Mile Reef and Journey to the Center of the Earth) in track #14?

Hey I can tell you exactly why they weren't in the second film.

They were on a dig in Gobi Desert and couldn't be reached. By the time that they get back, everything is settled.

    JP3 Plot Idea:

But they get curious about how these creatures live in an uncontrolled environment so they organize an expedition to the island. InGen agrees to sponsor an expedition for reasons unknown to our noble scientists.

Unfortunately, someone doesn't like this idea and seeds the expedition with an agent or two. Things start to go south after hitting the island. Mayhem ensues. People get eaten. Turns out that there is another group on the island who are conducting research on the animals for various reasons (InGen's Competitors).

As both sides begin to take shots at each other the dinosaurs get tired of both groups and kill just about everyone.

Proving once again that Dinosaurs are smarter than Corporate Moguls.

NP: Battle Beyond the Stars (Horner's Salad Days!)

Rocco - What's wrong with Joe Johnston? I personally like him very much, and think of him as a capable director. The Rocketeer was no cinematic masterpiece, mind you, but I felt he did an excellant-enough job directing. I think he will prove to be the best Spielberg-replacement for this project.

But I will admit I'm worried about Horner scoring the film. I do hope he continues Williams' themes (along with developing his owns), as, like I said in another thread some time back, sequel composers rarely keep the themes developed by the original composer of the first film.
