Topic: How many movies do you see per week?

This goes along with the topic on how many films you've seen in one day, only it's how many films did you see at one time in your life, do you now, or on average, in a given week? This includes films on TV as well as in the theater.I knew a director who watched at least 9 films a week. An ex-girlfriend and a current friend both felt antsy if they didn't get into a theater about every 3 days. I saw over 500 films in one year, but that was some time ago and now I do about 3 films a week.
What about you?

I don't go to the theater much, and even less so lately. Usually I went once a week, but the last movie I actually saw in the theaters was "Galaxy Quest" on Christmas Day.Sometimes I'll rent a DVD during the week, but that's only two or three times a month.
I just don't have the money to spend, plus I have picky tastes.

It fluctuates a lot. Normally I try to go to the cinema once a week, and see a couple of films on TV. These days though I'm seeing nothing, but am really looking forward to when I have more free time.

I usually go to the theater two to three times a week. I see about 100 movies a year there. Summer and Winter are when I see the majority of the films.

I generally see about 3 films in the theaters per week, about 3 on video, and anywhere from 5-10 on HBO or Showtime. So, I guess about 12 or 13 a week. The theater one fluctuates a bit, depending on how many movies come out in a given week. I try to see most of them.

Is it an age thing, the younger you are the more you watch. Or a time thing, those busy with jobs or with family seeing less obviously?

Well Louis, here goes:a few films in the '50s that I remember, from 1958-1968 a lot of movies. Both on TV and at the theatres. From 1968 to 1973 not very many-busy during those years.
1973-1981 very few-just a few TV films
1981-1985-only a few at the theatres-maybe 6-8 during that time. Very busy. 1985-1987 VCR-tons of films. Too many. Since then some on TV such as AMC and others, maybe 20 at the theatre, 20 more on VCR and a few major films on TNT or Lifetime. In last 10 years only been to theatre around 6-8 times.Between 1958-1968 I saw 100s of films at the theatres and on TV. Going to the drive-in in North Texas a popular thing in those years and began to die out in late '60s. John.

Well, I have to admit I have seen 1000s of movies in my 35 years...most of the classics form the 30s 40s 50s etc ( I studied film in College). I lost a bit of interest in movies in the 90's (just overkill I think), but after a nice rest since the advent of DVD capabilities I've gone the whole hog and bought an LCD projector. That was a month ago and I think I've watched a movie every night since I bought it ( no I have no life!)
and watching all my favs on DVD on a big screen is superb....I'm now in movie heaven!!
As well as the latest blockbusters I enjoy watching the classic films that I never had the chance to see in the cinema i.e. "Vertigo" "Dr. No" etc etc. So any of you guys thinking of getting a new large screen TV....dont!!!....get a projector instead for that true home cinema experience. Gae

Gae--I've always felt the same way, that a video projector is superior to a large screen TV. A movie a day, really? Wow, I'm impressed. And way more in college too. Unfortunately, I think my already tenuous relation to reality would totally warp and snap if I were to return to the kind of screening schedule you've got going (please don't take that the wrong way), but I envy you.

Lou, I dont really watch much T.V. these days as it seems nothing much more than soaps or quiz shows....thats why I'm into a movie a day instead. Also, the novelty of the projector has a lot to do with this hectic schedule at the moment. Im sure I'll ease off later. Anyway, personally I have a very good grasp on reality, thats why I enjoy the escapism of movies so much (esp. Sci-Fi, Fantasy etc) Cheers Gae
