This film is really funny. My son and I were in Ft. Worth one Thanksgiving visiting relatives in early '90s. This was on TV. It was an ice storm outside so we watched it. Almost every scene was really funny. Overacted and totally silly attempts to scare people in it. It was one of the funniest horror films I have ever seen. Every time they meant it to be scary, we would start laughing it was so bad. Tom Skerritt should be really humiliated for being in this. F------. It was more a comedy than horror film although they didn't mean it to be. Best, John.

Incoherent from start to finish, although I was sort of impressed with some of the "mirror" effects -- only because I'd read they were done live, though. Today I'd assume they were digitally created, and would be even less interested in the picture than I am. I only saw it once, and never again.

At the theater in Tokyo where I saw it, one whole billboard was given up to a collage of handpainted recreations of English-language tabloid headlines about the pre-release death of young Heather O'Rourke (Carol Anne). One of them read "POLTERGEIST KILLED." I found the whole thing so completely tasteless, I just had to take a picture of it. There was a mass of crows lurking atop that board -- compositionally, it's one of my more interesting early photos. (I fully expected to emerge the theater two hours later to discover crows all over the cars and storefronts and general facades. Fortunately, not. Later they turned up in my hotel room, though -- oh, that's another story entirely ...)

Two more things about this film that made me laugh in almost every scene was the preacher who overacted badly in every shot. The lady that was pretty good in the first movie was horrid in this. I would rate this one of the worst sequels in history. Right up there with Jaws in 3-D and 4. Best, John.

I forgot to mention: The guy who played Carol Anne's shrink was Richard Fire, who got the only halfway authentic laugh in the movie, and who is better known for cowriting the original HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER.

I actually saw this in a theater and it was an laugh riot. The first thing that set my friend Randy and I off was the building that the action is taking place.

Living in Illinois and having been to Chicago a number of times, it was rather easy to see that it was the John Hancock Center on the outside and Watertower Place on the inside. I can only imagine the derision that was heaped on this turkey in the Windy City itself.

As for another "funny" horror film, only last
year's remake of the THE HAUNTING has surpassed POLTERGEIST 3 for making me laugh throughout the film.

Indeed, "The Hauting" horror scenes made me laugh loud!

But nothing can top Mr. Twisted Nose's decapitation... Muaahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
