Last year was another bad one for films, but there were a few I did enjoy.

    1. THE MUMMY
    2. GALAXY QUEST
    3. SOLDIER (okay, released in 98, but I saw it for the first time in 99)
    4. DOUBLE JEOPARDY
    5. END OF DAYS

Off the top of my head, and in no particular order:

    THE SIXTH SENSE
SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT
    FIGHT CLUB
    DOGMA
    MAGNOLIA
THE RADIO HOUR (Japanese, released Stateside as WELCOME BACK, MR. McDONALD)
WONDERFUL LIFE (Japanese, released Stateside as AFTERLIFE)
    BRINGING OUT THE DEAD
    THE GREEN MILE
    TOY STORY 2

Honorable mentions: GAMERA 3, GALAXY QUEST, THREE KINGS, IN DREAMS. I didn't see a lot of the titles mentioned above.

    Chase&August:

Ahhh! Yikes...apart from "The Mummy", your list of favorite films of 1999 looks very similar to my list of Least Favorite films of 1999.

Oh well. To each their own, I guess.

    Top 5 of '99, huh? Hmm...well, here's mine:

    1. American Beauty
    2. The Insider (these top two are the easiest picks to make for this list, they were easily the best movies of last year and both are absolutely stunning.)

    Now the rest....

    3. The Sixth Sense
    4. The Matrix
    5. Fight Club

    A couple other's that I should mention:

    -- The Green Mile

I didn't see as many as I would have liked in 1999, but of those I did here's what I liked:

    The Sixth Sense
    The Iron Giant
    Three Kings
    Run Lola Run

American Beauty? Eh, it was alright. I don't know where all the overhyped praise is coming from... I want to see The Insider and Fight Club.

Speaking of Fight Club, since I see it on so many lists, what did everyone think of the "score" by the Dust Brothers? What is an influencing factor in making your Best Of list?

Perhaps this is a question for the General Topics?

The score to Fight Club is fantastic. It added that much needed eerie edge to the great film. I love th etechno the Dust Brothers pumped out, I own it, and listen to it all the time. A fantastic techno score. Cool yet "filmish"
