i've seen so many movie trailers that didnt use music from its own soundtrack and am at a loss when tryin to find it. i'm just wondering whats the most used soundtrack that had been in movie trailers especially in dramatic sequences, etc. so if anyone can just list a couple of them, i'd appreciate it.

Well, you can't go far wrong with the music of Randy Edelman:

    - Come See the Paradise ("Fire in a Brooklyn Theatre"; I once considered buying the soundtrack, but then I learned it was just this piece. I'll probably rip it off of Napster, a) if it's on there, and b) if only I knew how.)

    - Dragon: the Bruce Lee Story ("The Dragon's Heartbeat"; I bought the CD for this piece, but I've found much to love about other parts)

    - DragonHeart (Perhaps the most (in)famous of trailer music pieces)

Other works often found in trailers:
"Bud on the Ledge" from "The Abyss"
"Abduction" from "Mississippi Burning" (I remembered the name)
    "Main Title" from "Beetlejuice"

    And more...

    Hope this helps.

(Addendum for February 11, 2001: I would be remiss if I neglected the illustrious music of Hans Zimmer:
    RAIN MAN
    PACIFIC HEIGHTS
    BACKDRAFT
    RADIO FLYER
    DROP ZONE
    CRIMSON TIDE)

    Don't forget these:
-The Eyes Of Truth by Enigma (used in the matrix trailer)
-Bishop's Countdown by James Horner from aliens
-The Conspirators by John Williams from JFK
    -Carmina Burana by Carl Orff
-The Stairway Chase (I think) by James Newton Howard from The Fugitive
-The last track from Outbreak by James Newton Howard
-Apartment Search by Graeme Revell from the saint
-1492 main theme by Vangelis from 1492 (used in the Mission to Mars Trailer)
-Escape by Craig Armstrong from Plunkett and Macleane (used in Romeo Must Die)
-To The Stars (track 2 i think)by Randy Edleman from Dragonheart
-Journey to the Line by Hans Zimmer from The Thin Red Line (Used in the Pearl Harbor trailer)

that should be enough, hope this helps.
    Rich D.
NP - End Of Days - Debney

ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS, ALIENS! Used in trailers as early as THE RUNNING MAN, and done to death in countless trailers afterwards, even for pictures as unlikely as the Goldie Hawn vehicle DECEIVED. David Newman's marvelous HOFFA trailer suffers from equivalent overexposure. And I seem to have heard a lot of his brother Thomas's THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. Additionally, Wojciech Kilar's "vampire hunter" march from DRACULA comes up pretty often, from DEMOLITION MAN (of all pictures) onwards.

One unlikely but lovely borrowing: John Williams' FAR AND AWAY quite enlivened the CIRCLE OF FRIENDS trailer (never saw the picture.)

COME SEE THE PARADISE, is the most often used piece of trailer music. You should also try PLUNKETT AND MACLEANE and THE PEACEMAKER

I thought of all the ones already mentioned above. Aliens was very much heard in the early 90's and many Edelmans are common since as listed above in other posts. Add Under Siege 2 and Backdraft. They have been usee a lot too. best, John.

Backdraft is already in the list I posted.... as for Under Siege 2, we only have it listed as being on ONE trailer (RANSOM)... that doesn't mean it hasn't been used on other trailers, though. It means (ahem) that no one has TOLD us what trailer's it HAS been used on!

    So.... elighten us!

    Thanks!

Dan, can't give you the titles on Under Siege 2 but I have heard it in others. I guess other than Aliens, I hear Edelmans stuff the most including Indian in the Cupboard and Dragonheart a lot too. John.
