Yes, the beginning is from the Shawshank Redemption, however, the majority of it comes from the Horse Whisperer.

From "...from the director of Shawshank Redemption..." on is music taken from the Horse Whisperer.

ALL of the music from The Green Mile trailer is from The Horse Whisperer and all of it is available on the score CD from Hollywood records - there is no Shawshank used in the trailer. It begins with Track 5 (There Was Snow) segues into Track #12 (The Rhythm of the Horse) when you see the "From The Director of The Shawshank Redemtpion" caption and ends with Track #7 (Montana).

Let's hope for a fantastic score for The Green Mile!

I saw a trailer last night, and i could almost swear the music was from Miller's Crossing. I could be wrong.

    Ed,
you are correct. There are two or three versions out. One with Shawshank and Whisperer and the other one with Miller's Crossing

Ahem, I don't mean to be anal or anything, but a trailer is usually shown in the theatres. What you saw was the television commercial. That is the one with music from Miller's Crossing. Yes, you have permission to sock me in the face.

    That is all.

I'm familiar with the SHAWSHANK version of the trailer, not the MILLER'S CROSSING one. Remember that MILLER'S CROSSING was also used for the trailer of SHAWSHANK -- and if you listen to Newman's main theme (which I like), you sense it's kind of an inversion of Burwell's theme to MILLER'S CROSSING. I suspect SHAWSHANK was temped with MILLER'S CROSSING, and that's what Newman felt he was being asked to mimic.

For that matter, the MILLER'S CROSSING theme itself sounds much like an inversion of "Danny Boy" ...
