Hey, I'm an aspiring film composer.
Check out my music, let me know what you think:

Nathan, I listened to several of your cues. Some of them are quite good. I think you do have some real potential there and you indeed very talented as others here have said. I will listen to more of your cues later on tonight. I am living in Lawrence also. Film music fan since the late 50s.

I had the opportunity to meet Goldsmith on one occasion and saw two of his concerts in 1989. He wrote me a few letters also. Of all the composers he, Rozsa, Newman and several of the classic age composers and new composers I really enjoy. I really like Poledouris also. We miss him. Mark McKenzie is good too. Trevor Rabin is showing a lot of promise and John Powell is excellent.

You might be able to get a breakthrough scoring some of the Sci Fi movies. Your music is every bit as good as many, if not better than a lot on there. If you can make the right contacts there, I feel you could get a break. All these cues here would help you. Good job. Keep up the good work.

    JW./

Thank you for listening. You're from Lawrence KS? That's awesome, it's good to hear that there are more film score fans in town (though the plan for me is to move out to LA once I'm done with my bachelor's degree in Comp at KU. Here's to hoping I get into the USC film scoring program.)

Yeah, not too shabby. Are these cues school projects or real gigs? You should look into video game scoring in addition to the Sci-Fi movies that John mentioned.

My brother just got into USC school of film. You two should work together and be like the classic Williams/Spielberg, Silvestri/Zemeckis duo, haha.

Yeah, they're mostly for school related projects (i.e. film majors at my school needing music)
I'd say a good 95% of the tracks up there are for films.

And check out some of my new music, too and let me know what you think. I've had several films done in the past few months- and have several more coming up.

The link above has my music in chronological order (newest stuff first.)

I like some of your newer clips, there are some sounds in there that would fit film very well. Have you gone or do you currently go to music school? If so, you're on the right track! This is a great way to meet other musicians and filmmakers and get your hands dirty recording live musicians.
Good luck, I wish you success!

I am indeed going to music school, I have one more year left at my Music Composition, BM at the University of Kansas (I know, I know... but it's been a surprisingly good school!) I'm also applying for the USC film scoring program for Fall 2011. Wish me luck!

I have actually heard of the school, in the classical/concert music world they have a good name, I hope there are plenty of film opportunities there.

And especially good luck with USC! It's pricey but I understand you get what you pay for, although employment isn't guaranteed. If you want a good read on all the $$ 'questions you're afraid to ask' facts about living in LA as a film composer, I'd suggest this book here: http://www.amazon.com/Emerging-Film-Composer-Introduction-Psychology/dp/0615136230

There are a lot of film score opportunities... My freshman year (or the summer thereafter) I scored three feature length films (including one for 2 time sundance director Kevin Willmott- although, strangely enough, the one I scored for him was the one that *didn't* go to Sundance) And since I've score about 25 short-medium length films (anywhere between 5 and 45 minutes)
