Music (Original Score)* “Avatar” James Horner
* “Fantastic Mr. Fox” Alexandre Desplat

* “Sherlock Holmes” Hans Zimmer
* “Up” Michael GiacchinoMusic (Original Song)
* “Almost There” from “The Princess and the Frog” Music and Lyric by Randy Newman
* “Down in New Orleans” from “The Princess and the Frog” Music and Lyric by Randy Newman
* “Loin de Paname” from “Paris 36” Music by Reinhardt Wagner Lyric by Frank Thomas
* “Take It All” from “Nine” Music and Lyric by Maury Yeston
* “The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart)” from “Crazy Heart” Music and Lyric by Ryan Bingham and T Bone BurnettMust admit I didn't notice much score in Hurt Locker.... will have to see it again. I'd say 60% UP, 40% Avatar at this point.

Depends on who will win Best Picture [irony off]Maybe Desplat has a realistic chance now that he is doing Deathly Hallows.

The fact that Star Trek wasn't nominated in this category is a tiny bit disappointing but since Giacchino got recognized for Up, it isn't so bad.I have a feeling this one's going to Zimmer, though. The level of creativity on Sherlock Holmes beats almost everything I heard last year.

Why not something original like Up?

Zimmer wrote the best score, he should get it.Beltrami's nomination probably has more to do with the film than the actual music, unfortunately; fantastic film, and the score worked well but it was nothing close to the likes of Sherlock Holmes or Star Trek.

Hey sean, I like Sherlock Holmes quite a bit
I don't know about "best", but certainly "most original".
I'd rather have Giacchino make it, but Zimmer wouldn't be undeserved.

I'm glad you like it, it's a great score! I'd rather see Giacchino win for Star Trek rather than Up, which did nothing for me; so, I think he should win for the next Star Trek film, haha!Sherlock Holmes is my favourite score from last year, so that's why I think it should win. Desplat's New Moon was far better than Fantastic Mr. Fox and anything else he did last year ... And well, Avatar is "nice," but it's not a winner.

I think that it's safe to say, bias aside, that the Best Original Score segment was the highlight of this year's show (although the eventual award, like all the others, was predictable).

Anyone else notice that "Up" had the best preformed part of the presentation
And Disney, can "Up" finally get a physical release now that it won best score?

I second this. I think its terrible form on Disneys part not to release a CD of its now Oscar winning score.
