I generally prefer tracks from different episodes of a TV series not be mixed up. In this case "The Plan" really is something seperate from "Razor". Razor was more one of the regular episodes (although extended) while The Plan came after the series ended. I didn't see why they should be mixed up.Thanks for the link to the blog entry, question answered... I guess.
Bear does say "I apologize in advance to soundtrack album purists". So "Soundtrack ablum purist" must be the polite way to call someone a "clown"?

You know what, it's Bear's music. I think I'l let him decide how he wants to present it.And if you don't like the order, that's what ripping and re ordering is for.

HAHA! That's hilarious. I was gonna' type the same, Brain ... I make custom mixes all the time, as do many other people on this board; simply put, dkfz, there's an easy-to-use program called iTunes and re-ordering the tracks to your preference takes seconds--so hop to it if you don't have it.

Brian's Little Rant:Dkfz's comment made me think, I just see a lot of people on these film music boards seem to have issues with the way CDs are produced. "Are they in proper order?" "Why doesn't this stuff bleed together?" etc etc.
And I say to that, stop being dumb. Rip it, mix it, move it, whatever, you can make it your way and be done with it. People need to stop bitching about "Why did they do this?' "How come they didn't do that?" Well, complainer, you didn't produce the CD, be happy you even got a release. It's all about the music. Period.
Heck, I move things around with my stuff, sure. But you'll never hear me being ungrateful for a release.
People that say "Oh, it's awesome! I don't have an issue with it. But..." No. If you say that, you've got an issue. Fix it yourself on your own copy as a CD-R or digitally. It's easy these days.
But above all, just stop bitching. How do you think the labels feel when such small market like ours seems ungrateful? I'd be annoyed.
We owe these guys respect and thanks.
--Brian
PS: An album is supposed to be a listening experience. Jerry Goldsmith was always particular about his albums because he wanted them to take you on a journey that he crafted for something outside the film. If you want the film experience, watch the film.
As for Bear's new "BSG" CD, as I said above, I'll let him take me on that journey. He wrote the music, I think he'd know best for a CD presentation. Not to mention he's never left me down on his other "BSG" CDs.

I agree with you on this one Brian.I know I pointed this out to you all ready...but just like when Shaun bitched about the transition of "It's Been Educational" to "The Clocktower" on the BTTF CD, on FSM's board. Good god, it's that way in the film for crying out loud! I'm glad Intrada made it that way for the CD.

Here's another vote for the listening experience brigade. Nothing would make Bear's music seem less inspiring than keeping me mindful that 'this is exactly the order in which it appeared in the made-for-tv movie'. His music always feels bigger than that, and he's more than capable of putting together a fine album.

Michael and Trent: FTW!Thanks for the thoughts and same views. I'll be running for office later

And Michael, you're right. Bear also listens to what fans want (via his awesome blog) and does his best to make sure that a piece of music or certain performance makes it on the album. He's a class act of new composers these days, and one of my favorites.

EXACTLY! And by the logic of film/show chronological order and whatnot, for example, Bear wouldn't have the opportunity to fine tune his tracks and re-record certain sections specifically for release (think "Prelude To War" or "Storming New Caprica" ... those have significant and improved alterations than what appeared on air! I'm all for it) to make a better listen and that larger than life feel; another fantastic example is the awesome HZ/JNH Batman theme being brought to full force on The Dark Knight release in "Like A Dog Chasing Cars" ... It never appeared in the film, but I'm grateful that they deemed it worthy of release, BECAUSE it kicks a.s.s.!

It's Bear's music and he can arrange it any way he wants. I'm sure it works fine as a listening experience.I wasn't bitching or complaining. I asked a question and stated my preference. If anyone has "issues" I think it's you clowns who are so eager to jump all over someone for asking a fracking question!
As for iTunes: I don't have it and won't be installing it on my computer... ever.
Because I have an older computer and my OS is incompatible with iTunes. Now you can jump all over me for that reason. Have fun tearing me a new one.
Let me go first: I need to show some respect to Apple for making this free app available and upgrade my OS already! I'm annoyed that I'm such an ungrateful jerk!

dkfz, I believe it was your use of the "thumbs down" icon that got everyone in a tizzy. For future reference, remember to mask your posts with either a
or a
or even better a
For example: What is wrong with that crazy Bear dude
. He's always mixing up his tracks like a drunken sailor
. Why can't he just be like a movie composer and arrange stuff in a more logical way?

I hereby retract my use of the "thumbs down" icon in my initial post. I should have used the "question mark" icon instead. The thumbs down icon used in this post is directed at me. I apologize profusely to anyone who was offended, and to Bear McCreary to whom I offer my profound respect and extreme gratitude.

It just seemed like a terribly silly remark from you when there's plenty of software available out there for free to mix up the tracks any which way you want, and also, any CD player made in the last 20 years most likely has a "program" feature on it to do the exact same thing, so you're point seemed all the more outrageous.

Like I was saying to a friend of mine today, just because these labels are doing the Lord's work, does not mean that they are completely above criticism.Re: BTTF, it is like that in the film, but it's three different cues in one. I was fine with putting the two Clocktower bits together, but such an iconic (to us) opening of a cue to be buried like that was super frustrating. And re: "THAT'S HOW IT WAS IN THE FILM, DICKHEAD," what did you think of the "Ultimate Edition" of The Phantom Menace?

Kev, Yep. This is the last "cannon" tile that will be released. But I know Bear's been talking about some other "BSG" related projects. It's nice to see a label like LaLa really be on the ball with this stuff. Shows like "Lost" have been much slower in their releases. And then shows like say "Smallville" have nothing. It's awesome that we've got all this great BSG music. I'm also very glad LaLa's doing "The X-Files" set that hits this summer. I'm very excited for that! A long time coming!
My CD should arrive tomorrow!

Giving this CD it's fourth run now.
Very exciting and the selection is colorful.I am however dissapointed with the last "live" track.
I think a better selection would have been "Apocalypse" with the voice over of the First Hybrid as the Cylon Basestar attack the colonies of man.
"Counting down. All functions nominal. All functions optimal. Counting down. The center holds. The falcon hears the falconer. Infrastructure, check. Wetware, check. Everyone hang on to the life bar, please.
Apotheosis was the beginning before the beginning. Devices on alert. Observe the procedures of a general alert. The base and the pinnacle. The flower inside the fruit that is both its parent and its child. Decadent as ancestors. The portal and that which passes.
Nuclear devices activated, and the machine keeps pushing time through the cogs, like paste into strings into paste again, and only the machine keeps using time to make time to make time.
And when the machine stops, time was an illusion that we created free will. Twelve battles, three stars, and yet we are countless as the bodies in which we dwell, are both parent and infinite children in perfect copies. No degradation.
The makers of the makers fall before the child. Accessing defense system. Handshake, handshake. Second level clear.
Accepting scan. Love outlasts death.
Their ships fail. Skittering like skipped stones. Meaningless in the absence of time.
Progress reports arriving. The farms of Aerolon are burning. The beaches of Canceron are burning. The plains of Leonis are burning. The jungles of Scorpia are burning. The pastures of Tauron are burning. The harbors of Picon are burning. The cities of Caprica are burning. The oceans of Aquaria are burning. The courthouses of Libran are burning. Foobs.Just personally, but I would have hated having voice-over on that track. In fact, I generally hate voice tracks on score albums. For me it detracts from the listening experience.
But like I said, that's my opinion. Mileage varies.
