    See subject

I posted this in the other Avatar thread, but wanted people to see it.

And of course this is subject to change!

    So what?

Alvin and the Chipmunks (THE SQUEAKQUEL) soundtrack beats Avatar by a week.

I hope there's a score release for Alvin and the Chipmunks 2. Lennertz did a good job with the first one. Yay to LaLa Land for releasing it.

I quote the great Bartles and Jaymes commercials from 1987, "We thank you for your support".

Now that the random quotient has been fulfilled...

So I'm trying to withhold expectations on this score. Titanic wasn't Aliens, and niether will be this. I hope to be so sold on the experience of seeing this film that I'll want the music to remember it by.

New 3 and a half minute trailer premiers in theaters this Friday. It'll be online on the 29th (if I remember right).

I don't want to get excited for this score because Horner has dissapointed me a few times in the past, but I have a feeling he might hit this one out of the park...

Are you kidding?! It looks like crap! Unless you mean the movie... which I couldn't tell cuz it's a crap bootleg trailer so I shut it off after about 3 seconds.

I think I'll wait until the 29th to see the HD version...

I don't get why people can't wait for an official encode. Do you really want to watch a video of someone using a camera on their cellphone filming a screen? Not to mention the terrible sound...

I can't be alone in this mindset...

Who cares ... I'd never watch the movie that way, but a trailer is just a trailer; it'll look very nice on my HD monitor next week--as for now, I'm just so stoked about this film (and score! which hopefully will not be something you can string into that Horner mix, Clayton haha) that I don't mind, at all, watching a boot of the trailer.

If this score ends up in my mix I'll be very, very sad!

But I still stand by what I said about quality. I even take Quicktime HD files and make AVCHD discs out of them so that I can watch them in HD on my home theater... yes I am a nerd.

That uninspiring noise on the website is like some sound effects track with a Titanic-escue tune. I won't buy this CD if it's all filled with such stuff.

To each their own, good sir. To each their own. Personally, I can't judge this score from the excerpt on the website. I'll wait until I've seen the movie.

Those are horrible track titles. Not that it says anything about the music, but still...

After listening to that clip, though, I hope the whole score doesn't have the same African-inspired sound.

I like that part from 1:09 on. To me, that's Horner doing pretty good.

I'll take it over the overused middle eastern yemenite vocals to evoke ethnic or otherworldly sadness or the overused Armenian Duduk that goes back to Peter Gabriel's music for The Last Temptation of Christ.

Look, while African tribal rhythms aren't the only ones out there, they make a pretty satisfying template to work from on many occasions. give it to another composer, they may do something else - perhaps the Na'Vi are African like in their culture. We don't know how that will be reflected in the score or the movie until its been publicly ingested.

Titanic was all Celtic and it was a great score (which we had heard in Braveheart). We'll have hear it in the film. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised. He has put a year into it exclusively.
