From Upcoming Film Scores:quote:
New Moon, the upcoming sequel to last year's massive hit Twilight, gets an original score by French composer Alexandre Desplat. The assignment of the Curious Case of Benjamin Button composer has been confirmed to Upcoming Film Scores by Desplat's manager. This means that Carter Burwell, whose 'Bella's Lullaby' became an immediate success with Twilight fans, does not return to the sequel. The reason is that New Moon director Chris Weitz already has an ongoing working relationship with Desplat who scored his fantasy epic The Golden Compass. Desplat's other previous films include The Queen, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium and Lust, Caution. The Twilight Saga: New Moon will hit theatres on November 20.Hmmmm... Not that the Twilight films are really of any great interest on this board, but I just thought this was rather interesting. I never would have imagined Desplat to score one of these films, so now I'm interested to see what kind of music he'll compose.

The reason Desplat is scoring the film is that the director is Chris Weitz who did THE GOLDEN COMPASS.Obviously they got along great.

I may very well check this score out even though I have no interest in the movie.

I admittedly saw Twilight, and while not a masterpiece, wasn't a horrible movie. Burwell's score was him doin' his thing, and it was a solid effort on his part. That said, having seen the first film, knowing that Weitz is attached and Desplat will be scoring, makes a sequel all that much more interesting to me.
