This looks even more awesome!

Anyone know where the music is from? Dan? Original?

It sounds a little Zimmerish...but it's awesome!

AWESOME FRAKKIN' TRAILER!!! Christ! I wished that had played before Watchmen tonight so I didn't have daydream for the Malin Akerman nude scene that took forever to arrive...

That music was effective/affective, very Hans Zimmer, so I'm glad it's not the actual score.

If you go to the official site, I think we have our first listen to the new score. Sounds VERY Giacchino with his style of string writing, but some of the chords have a Horner feel to them. It's a slow piece with a bit of percussion buildup towards the end. So far not a very memorable theme, but it's only a snippet.

I guess I'm the only one who is not impressed.

Trek has traditionally done better when it's focused on the story, and not special effects. This film looks like it's all effects, and no substance.

I'm not even cautiously optimistic. Sorry.

O.K., if that's the score on the official site than I'm not impressed... Hopefully, that was purchased music that just ended up there.

Kevin: Sorry, the impression you wrote of the trailer rings empty. You want Star Trek to be successful again? You're gonna' get your story and your emotion and all that jazz and you're gonna' get ACTION, do not worry--Leonard Nimoy wouldn't be involved just for the hell of it and certainly not for money. All my friends who are not Star Trek fans have been blown away and hooked by these trailers--simple fact: Their ad campaign is working.

I'm still on the fence about this movie. I'm a Trekkie and the whole look of this movie is turning me off. The fact that it's another damn time travel movie taking place in an alternate reality is the major turn off.

I MAY wait to see it when it hits Blu-Ray but until then there are other movies coming out this year I'd rather see.

Ah, whatever, man... The Enterprise looks just fine. I love Star Trek... I've seen every damn episode of all the TV incarnations; I own all the movies and watched them many times over; I have all the scores; The Art of Star Trek book, The Music of Star Trek book, theatrical posters for most of the films, Art Asylum ships, you name it; but I still cannot wait to see this movie! It looks fantastic.

I have to say, as a non-Trek fan (haven't seen any of the movies or TV shows) and as a person that didn't like either of the first 2 trailers (well, the teaser was interesting, but that was about the extent of my excitement)... this new trailer has me excited to see the movie. It seemed much larger, dramatic, fast paced and entertaining. The 2nd trailer made me think the movie was full of terrible acting and cheesy dialogue and poor film making. This one looks like they really stepped it up a notch and are making a big budget film that people should be excited about.

Didn't people at one time say that many times all the best stuff got into the trailers, and not the film?

Sean, I'm afraid your Trek collection doesn't do anything to change my opinion. The first episode of Star Trek I saw was "The Corbomite Maneuver"... on the original air date (yeah, I'm that old).

We used to take stop watches and time how long it took us to "guess the episode".

I suffered through the long drought between TOS and ST:TMP. I saw every movie opening day, first showing (all ten). I'm a Trek aficionado (I won't get into the whole "Trekkie/Trekker" thing).

So I'm a fan from Year One. And I still am not enthused about the new film.

No, I'm not upset that Abrams is screwing (somewhat) with Canon. I'm not upset about the casting, or that "The Shat's" not in the film.

Yes, from what I've seen, this (alternate reality) takes liberties with Canon. Yes, it looks like "Melrose Place" in space (or for you younger folks... "Gossip Girl." Personally, I think JJ Abrmas is a good director, but for me, his stuff has always leaned too much on action/effects, and not enough on story. Nothing I have seen in any of the teasers/trailers have made me say "damn! I need to see this!!" I'm apathetic.

You want to know why I feel this way? I can tell you exactly why, and when it started.

1999. And who is to blame for my opinions?

George Lucas.

Yep, that guy. After years of promising a second trilogy to Star Wars, everyone's all geeked up for "Episode 1." I stood in line 4 hours to get a wristband to get a place in line for another 4 hours to get tickets for opening day (which I did with no complaint. After all, it's new Star Wars!).

And the film starts... and I can't tell you how disappointed I was. I walked out of the theater vowing to never give Lucas any more of my money (and I never saw Ep. 2 or 3 in the theaters).

So... you tell me. Why should I get my hopes up? Huh?

If you take a long, hard look you will see I'm just being a realist, and that's the best way to be nowadays.

See, when opening day comes, either two things will happen. One, the film will be great. Rave reviews, great box office, etc. Or two, it could suck worse than the last few Eddie Murphy films. So if I go in to the theater with no grandiose expectations, I can't be disappointed. If it's good, fine. If it sucks, oh well. It won't be much of a let down.

Now, saying that, I'm sure it will be better than anything Berman & Braga could have ever come up with. But that's not saying much. They couldn't write themselves out of a box.

So to sum up, you're not going to change my mind.

That trailer makes the movie look like a mix between Transformers 2 and Clone Wars.

It's just my impression, but the film looks unspeakably awful.
But the music should be interesting.

gkgyver: SO, what do you like!?!? Seriously! Other than posting in that dumb LOTR Package Update thread, what turns your crank!? ALL I ever see you posting in are threads where you can hate on and s.h.i.t. from your keyboard about Hans Zimmer, or now hate/s.h.i.t. more generally. You did post some garbage about orchestration being "interesting" with the fourth Indiana Jones movie and that dull/boring Crystal Skull theme because you "can" play it on piano (whoop-dee frakkin' doo!), but that's it.

Let's see if my post can add to a more elevated sense of humanity. Highly illogical ambition, I know, but... what the hell.

Anyway, like a lot of folks here, I grew up with the movies of Star Trek, and hence, the music. I've almost annoyingly started many a post extolling my fandom of Star Trek: The Motion Picture's music and what it has meant for me. I'll try to avoid that here.

These trailers and this project looks better to me than the last three Trek films (for that matter, the last three series). If anything, I truly can't judge the film based on the probably total 3 minutes of footage across a teaser and two 2.5 minute trailers commonly seen. So it could go one way or the other.

Regardless, having seen so many changes of Trek over the years and the different directions it has taken, I relish the idea of a fresh perspective. I want it to be fun, and I think it will be. I can honestly say that May looks like a VERY crowded month, with the crown jewel being Star Trek.

I read over at FSM, from Jeff Bond (who's apparently been to the recording sessions), that the music on the official site is indeed Giacchino's main theme for the film. To say the least, this is bad news: Not much of a theme; bland; uninspired; terrible synthetic percussion... If it's an indication to what the score as a whole will be like, than what I was afraid of in choosing Giacchino to score is coming true: His skill-level just doesn't cut it for Star Trek; another score on par with Generations? I hope not.

I wouldn't count the chickens before they hatch, otherwise, they'll come home to roost.

Anyway, it's a piece of the score. I don't doubt yours of Jeff Bond's validity but I wouldn't see that as the Main Title itself but a representation- a statement of the theme at a critical moment in the film. It sounds like belongs at that kind of place in the film. Wouldn't have been my first choice for the web promos, but I'm not running their website.

Yeah, Widescreen, you're right... It's just not striking the right tone and isn't in keeping in demonstrating how good this film looks to be. Wrong piece of music to put on the website--it needs something more robust, something epic, something to sink our teeth into, like the trailers themselves!

OK, so I've been away for a bit, but I could not help but laugh all the way through this riot of a thread. Fantastic.

I agree the trailer generates goosebumps for me...comments about the ship are plain uninformed. A coworker has a hi-res shot as his computer background image, and it is a fantastic melding of OTS and the early films. The design of the film looks great, and passing judgment on casting and story at this stage is stupid at best.

Of course they will throw effects at the viewer in the trailer. This is not Slumdog...zzzzzzzzzzillionaire.

As for someone being turned off from this movie by George Lucas, all I can say is, get over it already. Embrace the healing of the Moviemusic.com family and move on with your life. Give hope and Star Trek a chance. Peace. Out.

Oh and Kevin, you may say you are a realist, but if so how can the outcome of Star Trek be relegated to a couple of polarized options. Why must it be great or terrible? That is not realistic, it is merely extremist to prove a point that need not be proven before a movie is released.

And you should probably ease up on the sensitivity throttle a bit. Your age (thus implied by your demeaning "young man" remark) is irrelevant. Your age does not immediately qualify your remarks with gravity nor demand respect. And silly threats have no business around here...most of us have been subject to far worse on forums, have smiled and moved on (including myself for 8+ years on this very site). If it was a failed attempt at humor, well, my apologies and I suggest you refine your comedic talent a bit.

As for me, having suffered through a Star Trek vaccum for several years now I cannot help but be excited. Any true fan would give this movie a chance and reserve judgment until it can be rendered with unbiased facts.

Long live Trek.

Yeah, shame on some of us for liking certain cues used in trailers and wondering what they are. Shame on us for having an opinion that differs from yours. Man... how low we must be to enjoy the music used in "Star Trek - Trailer #3", a film that looks so terrible, that no one should talk about it.

From now on, I think there should be a new rule. NO ONE CAN ASK WHAT MUSIC IS USED IN A TRAILER. There's a chance it might be production music, and therefor sucks (by standards established by gkgyver) and shouldn't be asked for.

But I do have some bad news for you... I probably enjoyed that music more than I'll enjoy any music that's actually in Star Trek (though I hope that I am wrong).

I think the trailer was awesome and a convincing argument that there is hope for this film. Whoever cut this trailer did his job well, combining the visuals with the emotional music and the dialogue to actually deliver a NON-conventional trailer for the industry's current state. No "end-of-the-trailer-one-liner-quips" here.

As far as the George Lucas thing, I think many of us blame him for the failures of the latest Star Wars trilogy, as well as the Indiana Jones lead balloon, this due to his lack of seriousness for the projects and the essence of the story.

Contrary to this, is what I see which is a recent emerging trend that has been occurring with certain filmmakers/studios that is the franchise "reboot" which is taken very seriously and the material is treated as such. Examples of this are BATMAN BEGINS/DARK KNIGHT and CASINO ROYALE (Not so successful to me was QOS). Both of these franchises yielded record receipts because of how they treated the material in a more faithful, less campy manner. Based on this third trailer, I have complete faith now that STAR TREK will fall into this category, as well. JJ Abrams is not George Lucas. He does concern himself with the dynamics of the RELATIONSHIPS between characters in his work. Some of his work is better than others at displaying this, LOST being at the top of that list ahead of CLOVERFIELD and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3. But you can see from all of his work that the human element is important to him, paramount to effects. And so for that, I will give the man a shot. This third trailer reaffirms my beliefs, IMO.
