The first time in a long time I had a moment to go visit the Intrada forum to see what people's discussions were like on their new releases. There were lots of postings so I thought "cool, some on-fire discussion about a soundtrack or two!" But then, it turns out that people are posting their agony over not behind able to order for 45 (and counting) minutes because the server crashed. That's too bad. If people are worried about not getting it, there are other places to order the thing at the regular price!!What do you guys think of this score? I do know it's been highly requested for a long time, which probably has more to do with the fun quality of the score than it does filling gaps in a collector's library for Horner....
Is there a favorite moment or two in the movie where the score really befits? I admit, I liked the music in the movie when I saw it, but that was like a million years ago (or so it seems, call me Nancy Pelosi). Time to see it again I bet.

Well Nancy Pelosi, I remember liking the main title and the night time theme as a kid. While I'm sort of on the fence right now, as I doubt I'll actually listen to it much, nostalgia will probably knock me off onto the BUY NOW side. That and the low-quantity warnings that will soon commence...

I just want to say Wow to this score! Once for the quality of the release and excitement of the score itself, and once for the fact that it hasn't sold out yet.I saw this movie in theaters in '89 and the numerous times it payed on The Disney Channel in the early 90s.
I always liked the score, and remembered a few bits from it 20 years later. But I had no idea how big and complex the music was until I listened to the recent Intrada release. I realize the points the Horner critics make about the originality of the music, but I really don't care. This score is outright fun, and probably the most exciting and thrilling composition you can listen to out of today's rather linear and restrained film music. Its really a breath of fresh air and reminds me of why I like film music to begin with. I've actually been considering to move on to another genre that I've discovered in the last few months, Jazz. This not because I don't like film music anymore, but just because there really is'nt much reason to buy scores anymore. (unless its some classic unreleased material from Intrada and FSM stuff). They just don't make'em like they used to anymore. Thats why I appreciate Honey, I Shrunk the Kinds score so much.posted 05-26-2009 04:11 PM PT (US)

I was struck by how much of this music I remembered from watching the movie as a kid. Not just the main Amarcord/Powerhouse theme, but the over-the-top thrills of the lawnmower cue, the little rodeo piece for the ant, and especially that pretty little theme in "Night Time," my favorite track on the album. While it hasn't constantly been in my player--there's too much being released these days for that--I have listened to it more than I thought I would.
