UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS UNCOVERS THE ORIGIN OF THE FEUD
Original Score by Paul Haslinger to be released by Lakeshore Records
(February, 2008- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the original score for UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS available digitally (iTunes and Amazon Digital) and in stores on February 3, 2009. The film is the prequel to the 2003 film Underworld and its 2006 sequel Underworld: Evolution. It features score by Paul Haslinger (While She Was Out, Vacancy).
Grammy-nominated composer Paul Haslinger was classically trained in Salzburg and Vienna. In Vienna he began exploring the new domain of electronic music. He auditioned for and became a member of the pioneering group Tangerine Dream. During his five-year tenure with the group, Tangerine Dream released four albums and collaborated on several film projects including Miracle Mile, Near Dark, and Canyon Dreams.
After Tangerine Dream, Haslinger continued his work as a solo artist. He honed his film scoring skills as the programmer for composer Graeme Revell on Blow, The Negotiator, Siege, and Tomb Raider. In 2000, Haslinger composed the score for director John Stockwell’s Cheaters. Since then they have collaborated on Crazy/Beautiful, Blue Crush, and Into the Blue. Haslinger’s film credits include: While She Was Out, Vacancy, Shoot Em Up, Crank, Underworld, The Girl Next Door, and The Italian Job.
UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS delves into the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, known as Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). A young Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement.
Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment present UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS in theaters nationwide on January 23, 2009. UNDERWORLD: RISE OF THE LYCANS original score on Lakeshore Records will be available via iTunes, Amazon Digital and in stores on February 3, 2009.
