I was a little too harsh on Williams fourth score in the Indiana Jones series. True, its not a great score, but its not all that bad either. I really like the last three cues on the score having listened to them several times lately. Even when its not his best its still better than most composers out there. Although I still like the other three better, this one is close. I still don't think too much of the film though. So in recap of the four:

    1. Last Crusade is my favorite one with all the themes and the Scherzo piece
    2. Temple of Doom
    3. the original one
    4. not far behind the last one

Speaking on some other scores I have been hearing lately:

    1. Howards Treasure Planet and Water Horse, I like both of these been listening to them quite a lot

    2. Bolt by Powell. This one is pretty good. He is really improving steadily. The Hancock score was pretty good too although parts of it seemed derivative, but he is definitely coming along.

    3. I really like that score by H.G. Williams for Kingdom of Heaven. That vocal is very nice too.

    4. That new El Cid is fantastic especially all the fanfares and the march. All of the new music is good.

    5. Trevor Rabin is consistently improving also. Really developing nicely. Much potential for great stuff in future. I liked his Armaggedon theme on that Mega Hits Cincinnati Pops Cd. Great cue. I also like his Great Raid score, Flyboys and Snakes on a Plane.

    6. One of the few pieces I have liked by Horner in the last several years was the fight scene in Troy between Pitt and Bana. Pretty effective.

    J.

When I first started really getting into film music in 2005, Trevor Rabin was one of my favorites, but he just hasn't done much for me lately. Armageddon, Deep Blue Sea and The Great Raid were all fantastic, I liked a fair amount of Flyboys as well. But not much since then, although to be fair he hasn't had that many CDs in recent memory---I never did get Get Smart.

I thought Snakes on a Plane was a real disappointment myself.
