    Oh I have some...

Scream - Smooky sound effects in this one.

    Halloween - Obviously

House on Haunted Hill - An underrated Don Davis score (and movie actually, it's dumb but fun)

The Village - Parts of this are kind of creepy.

    The Happening

    Signs

The Shining (wish I actually had music from this movie)

And I almost freaken forgot the scariest score ever:
    The Omen

The Omen (Jerry Goldsmith's), and certain cues from The Temple of Doom.

I also enjoy Mary Shelley's Frankenstein with that monsterous brass.

Of course, the first 3 Alien scores are also great.

    I feel a playlist coming on ....

Carpenter's and Howarth's score for Prince of Darkness which Peter had better put up a pre-order link to the newly announced complete score release.

I've never heard Prince of Darkness. I did actually enjoy their Halloween stuff though. I thought Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers had some creepy music in it.

I've always found John Williams' The Fury to be very unsettling.

Check out Bruce Broughton's Monster Squad for Halloween fun. (Add Silvestri's Van Helsing for a little "Universal Monster Mash" action.)

More rare is Hummie Mann's Dracula: Dead and Loving It, though I had to throw a "Dracula" score in here.

If you throw in a Dracula score, I'd have trouble choosing between Philip Glass' scoring of the '31 Tod Browning picture, Williams' score, or Kilar's score for Coppola's film.

Nah, I'd choose Kilar any day.

'31? Obviously you don't mean 1931, since that would actually predate Philip by several years.

Wow... you DO mean 1931. I did a few seconds of research and found that Glass scored the movie 68 years later. I've never heard of such a thing.

(I'm not terribly knowledgeable about Glass, and even less about Dracula films. )

    Educate yourself, Pipolo!

    http://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/dracula1931

It's one of Glass' best pieces (though it tends to over-power the film, which is crap anyway aside from the excellent lighting and production design) and the Michael Riesman piano variations album is much better, IMO.

    Mephisto Waltz...

I don't like it. Too scary.

Amenabar's The Others may be more suspenseful than scary, but there are some good scary moments!

Am I thinking right if I suggest Psycho II as well? And why not JG's Alien?

There are others, plenty others... BOO!

Nutso: "Prince of Darkness is not available to any retailer for 30 days. Retailers should not take any pre-orders until December 2."

'Tis a new rule in the limited edition game, at least going forward with this "AHI" label. Buysoundtrax wants to sell all the copies, so do what you are told and buy it from them. Or make a statement, and don't! It's just a CD.... but to others, it's a tool to keep 'em down!

Um... yeah. I've been told I can't begin accepting orders until December 2, but then and only then if BSX hasn't sold them all. Someone needs mail a clue to AHI that BSX is not the preferred soundtrack retailer these days (not an opinion), and they are killing sales by doing this. But again... it's just a CD.

    Back to our topic!

But isn't fear causing you to worry that it might sell out by then? LOL.

Which scary music cue can I play right now... hmmmm.... "Remembering Terror" from SUDDEN IMPACT. ::::EEEKS::::

I'm surprised no one has mentioned End of Days. Scary stuff, then again, creepy kid voices singing Agnus Dei gives me the chills every time.

Many mentioned The Shining. The main theme has to be one of the scariest tracks ever made. Freaks me out!

I find terrifying moments in John Corigliano's Altered States and Hans Zimmer's Paperhouse. And a slew of Christopher Young scores.

And, of course, Dimitri Tiomkin's The Thing From Another World...

Mephisto Waltz is as creepy as it gets for me, but it's not quite as listenable as say... Poltergeist... which I've been playing for the season so far. Horror is definitely Goldsmith's genre, although I also second The Fury.

All the scores everybody has mentioned are great!

    HOWEVER...

Shame on you guys! No One has mentioned anything by Danny Elfman. Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Tales from the Crypt, The Frighteners.

    Goldsmith's Poltergeist is essential.

Goldenthal's Interview With The Vampire is one of my favorites.

    William's Dracula.

Any scores to movies with Hannibal Lecter.

The Bride of Frankenstein is the classic monster movie score that set the bar for all to follow.

I picture Edward Scissorhands as more of a Christmas or a fairy tale score. I don't remember there being much scary/horror music for it.

I'm shocked no one failed to mention this score...

    Ghostbusters - Elmer Bernstein

While it may not be scary but it can be used for Halloween.

Good point scoreguy, however, while Edward Scissorhands is kind of an x-mas movie, I see a lot of people dressed as Edward Scissorhands for Halloween...so it has some Halloween connotaions for me. Nightmare before Christmas is like this too...is it a Halloween movie or an x-mas movie? i usually end up watching it around both holidays. Gremlins is like that too...It's an x-mas time movie but it is also a monster movie. can anyone think of any othermovies that blur the line between these holidays?

Well, I just throw in Elfman's score for Night Breed; and not just because that one is one of his best.
