Is this worth the $120 price tag? How complete are the scores contained in it? I own the complete soundtrack to the original film. What's up with the 8th disc containing music from more than one film? Does that mean that it's alternate music? I like some music from superman 2 that wasn't John Williams so I'm willing to give this a try. Any way to here this before you buy it? Please help me out, I don't want to waste my money!

The Superman FSM blue box is definitely worth the $120 price tag.

Superman: The Movie has a remastered sound compared to the original Rhino/Warner release. It sounds better than ever before.

Superman II and III are in their complete form as well as Superman IV. Superman IV has alternate cues to it's score.

There's also the fantastic Ron Jones animated series disc which is with the set. Then there's the Superman: EXTRA! disc which contains alternate cues from the films and unreleased songs and source music.

All in all definitely worth the price tag, get it while you can!

I paid $80 for it used a few months ago and I think it was worth that. i can't imagine listening to the bonus disc ever again, though. $120 was a bit too much for me, but I probably would have got it eventually if I didn't get a good deal on a used one.

the Superman IV score is awesome (it almost makes me wanrt to watch the film!). The Thorne stuff is GOOD, not great...and of course the original score is great and I could be mistaken but i think they moved that awful track with Margot Kidder dialogue outside of the score proper in this presentation.

I have to admit, I think with the amount of EFFORT Lukas and his team did to actually GET this out and all the music, I mean EVERYTHING is in there, plus the first film sounds like 60% better than the Rhino, it's like listening to it for the first time. Thats how I felt.

If you read all the copyright on one of last page, it's like 100 or so different people had to have a copyright and all that. I can't imagine how much effort went into this, getting OK's from so many folks.

I think it was worth every penny.

The remastering on Superman, which is one of my all-time favorite film scores ever, makes the Rhino disc obsolete.

Superman II and III are much more effective in these fuller presentations, and sound much better than they did before. In fact, I considered this set to be something of a revelation with respect to Thorne's orchestrations, which had been plagued by indifferent mixes in the films.

Superman IV is out-freaking-standing. Even though the new themes Williams' wrote weren't necessarily up to the level of the original 1978 material, the way that Courage integrates the themes and motives together in his score is amazing. Lots of counterpoint, many things to discover.

The Ron Jones stuff is a lot of fun, and is very similar to his music for Star Trek: The Next Generation written around the same time. I wasn't familiar with these scores beforehand, so they were a great discovery.

While the Extras disc may not be much from the point of view of a stand-alone listen, there are some interesting things there which I've already found useful (I make a lot of mixes).

At the very least its a piece of film music history.

And all the music is worth having.

In my opinion both Indiana Jones and Superman sets will be worth having especially Superman.
