But unlike the others... this one was done by a film music website

    Enjoy!

Great interview. I can't help but read it as if Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard are speaking like rednecks, though... lol:

    quote:
JNH on their work and working with Chris Nolan:
...we're going to go through everything we go through, which is very difficult and painful sometimes. But I think we done good.

    quote:
HZ on not playing it safe w/ the Joker:
...I think if this is not provocative, if we aren't fiercely provocative in this here summer blockbuster, we might as well not start.

Haha. Were they really talking like that, Dan? Really? I mean... really?

And then... I can't even touch the whole Hans Zimmer is Catwoman, "see my claws, babe! (talking to JNH (errr... babe??).

All hilarity aside, this was a fun interview and showed a lot of character. It's clear that HZ and JNH are incredibly enthusiastic about The Dark Knight. For them to claim it's one of the best films they've ever worked on... well, that just leaves me tickled silly. July 17th can't get here any quicker.

I had to re-read that because I thought I read it wrong lol

Great interview Dan! Very interesting and I am glad they addressed the whole 2-Note theme thing, but I feel that people STILL will complain about it.

    I like this quote:

"JNH: I mean, I'm alwasy scared when I see something that needs two and a half hours of music - and that is really phenomenal."

Well, I guess that's confirmation that "The Dark Knight" is going to be at least 2.5 hours long. And as music will not be required at every moment, I'm thinking the rumors of a nearly three hour runtime are probably correct. Yay!

I heard that in attempt to top himself, Hans Zimmer's proposed theme for Catwoman is 1 and 1/2 notes.

It's been pretty much confirmed by pre-reviews (and Rotten Tomatoes) that the movie is 2.5 hours long. It's probably wall-to-wall music.

The movie is 153 minutes long, including credits.

It's quite good; nearly wall-to-wall music, but I felt there were actually less noticeable themes in this one than in BATMAN BEGINS. There's definitely some melodies and motifs, and the Joker stuff is creepy as hell, but for those hoping for a balls-out theme, you're gonna be disappointed.

    Movie is great, though!

(And yes, Jeron, the Catwoman exchange is printed verbatim, as well as the "redneck" stuff, as you put it.)

Has anyone actually heard the Joker theme yet? I'm just curious as to what it sounds like, other than the "razors over harpsichord" description.

Lots of distortion, slowly building. It's actually quite affecting.

From what I've heard, I think it would be more accurate to refer to it as "the Joker soundscape."

You guys have probably already seen this, but if not:

The Joker Party Crashing Scene from TDK

No spoilers in this 55 second clip. Just a bit more of Ledger's Joker than we've been able to see before. (And Patrick Leahy again. )

I've zoomed through the score yesterday, and from what I've heard, it seems like a step up from Batman Begins, but the Joker suite as a whole is IMO forgettable. Probably Zimmer's most boring concert suite in years.

    More impressions later.

Just a reminder, Hans doesn't write the suites for "concerts". He writes them to establish musical ideas which can then be honed into the final score. The suite might be "boring" but after seeing the film, it's quite affecting.

    Maybe.
But it's still a suite that doesn't work as a whole.

And there are many many Zimmer suites that are perfectly "suitable" for concerts. Da Vinci Code as a whole, for instance.

gk, in your opinion, what is a good suite by Hans Zimmer? Other than the aforementioned Da Vinci Code.

Neo, that clip is very impressive. Getting my IMAX tickets tanight.

OH, WOW! Just listened to the score! I love it. A hell of a lot better than Batman Begins. Andrew, this is what we've been waiting for. So far, my brain fell out of my head with "Like A Dog Chasing Cars" -- that's the big Batman theme, I imagine.

You mean the ascending three notes followed by three descending notes? That's not a theme, that's scales!

Yeah, I thought so too. I love Ledger's face when the gentleman says "We aren't intimidated by thugs." HA!

I'm getting my tickets today or tomorrow, but not IMAX. The closest IMAX theater is about 90 miles away, and I'm just not willing to drive that far.

Speaking of Hans Zimmer suites and such, I just listened to his 2001 "Hannibal" score, and once again found myself very impressed with him. If they hadn't ruined the album with Hopkins' monologues, it would surely be one of my favorite Zimmer scores.

The part that had me laughing and doubling over occurs when Ledger says something like, "You know, you remind me of my dad..." HAHA! Wow. Looks like an incredible performance.

I think track 9 was the biggest dissapointment on that album. I loved that peice so much and then the pointless dialogue apeard. Maybe, and this is just a thought, if I wanted dialogue over my scores, I'd just watch the movie instead.

Why "these scores"? What other scores did I get so much earlier?
But to answer the question, I didn't download it from a torrent site, it's available on YouTube.
It's not like I've actively looked for it, I've tripped over it on a message board.

"Like A Dog Chasing Cars" is a nice track, but in the end it's the rudimentary thematic variation you should expect in a sequel.

Ditto. I dread the moment when the monologue appears. I am particularly fond of "The Burning Heart" as well, but that track is marred just the same.

I'm sorry I can't recall the specific score, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time. I'm not pointing fingers; I thought you may have had a special relationship as a reviewer or something similar.

I'm so glad my favourite piece, "Virtue," isn't hindered in any way by the Hopkins stuff. Its too bad this release had such a terrible treatment in that respect, like the Gladiator volume 2 thingy... Yikes, I know Zimmer even dislikes that one.
