When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions is a miniseries similar to the scope of Planet Earth. When it premiered on Discovery, I sat down to watch it. Throughout it, I noticed that the music had a distinctively similar style to Transformers. I wouldn't say they were copied but the style of the music and some of the ways they were performed reminded me of Transformers. I would say that "Sam at the Lake" is notable in this, but is made to sound like something else.

I just found it odd that it sounded similar to Transformers.

If I remember correctly, isn't that "Sam at the Lake" cue notably a generic Thomas Newman retread anyway?

If you play some of the cues in Transformers at the same time the cues in When We Left Earth start, they will match up perfectly. They modeled this whole score after Transformers. Sam At The Lake, Optimus, Bumblebee, Arrival To Earth, all of them appear to be used as a temp score for When We Left Earth. That's the only thing I can figure... But I did notice this when watching the first episode. I thought maybe someone from Remote Controll had score it, but it doesn't look like it.

As for Sam At The Lake, it is kind of Thomas Neman-ish, but it's not just that cue that matches up. There's tons (like I listed).

Interesting. Thanks for filling me in on that. It's just that there was a specific cue that seemed similar to "Sam at the Lake" that jumped out at me.

It does sound exactly like a riff on the transformers stuff.
