I sure am happy to know all of the tracks are "album versions".... phew! Had me worried there for a moment.

I think I'd be shocked if I found an asterick next to a Hans Zimmer cue that read, "Film version." I think Black Hawk Down is the only score we could consider to not be in the traditional Zimmer-style suites and concert pieces. I'm relieved to see that Zimmer and Howard ditched the ironic Chiroptera species terms as track names. These track titles are great. The last track, "A Dark Knight", looks to be quite epic with its 16-minute runtime.

And a 70-plus minute album! Hopefully Mel Wesson didn't grab it at the last moment and fill it with atmosperhics.

Andrew, I beg to differ: I think BHD is in perfect keeping with Zimmer's suites format... "Leave No Man Behind" is definitely an album version, as that theme is never played that way in the film, nor at that length; "Still" is a standalone piece, which is not like that in the film (for that length of time, too); even "Chant" is a suite of the warlords' music, and same with "Tribal War" but that's more American-oriented (one of my favourite Zimmer action themes)--they're even split and those particular themes only appear in brief snippets during the film, while on album they are skillfully played as full pieces. On top of which, entire pieces on that CD aren't even in the film and are again played as standalone suites.

I think SPANGLISH is closer to the film version of the music than most Zimmer albums. The order is off, of course.

    Two-note motif, that is.

And G.K., don't be so snippy! Y'know, there's this rather famous score that also uses a scant two-note motif as its core building block. I PRESENT...........

Man, that lady is HOT!!! Too bad she's about to get eaten...

As for Zimmer scores that aren't suites... Tears of the Sun. All the tracks fade into eachother with ocassional breaks, but they're how they were in the film (except for where they're shortened a little bit). I also think POTC 3 only has one or two tracks that were edited. Still, I think one of the best mixes Zimmer has put out there has been for The Fan. Now if only a fully score would get released for that...

I don't think anyone could count that high... But maybe if I say it enough times someone will read it and go "hey! he's right! And since that one guy said it, we're going to release it!!! Just for him!!!"

What I'm so curious about is gkgyver's "interest" in this score: For someone who does nothing but bash Hans Zimmer, often without warrant or concrete/informative argumentative skills, it's fascinating to witness this unfold; an apparent hater "eagerly" anticipating the release of a score certain to be hated by that said individual is strange, to say the least. (I was not doing this for any of Mark Isham's scores for recent times--the only composer working today who's music I genuinely dislike on a regular basis.)

    Hey NeoVoyager

No, I'm sorry, at the moment there are no news about further Live-performances of tFotR. There were ideas when they really pushed this performance but at the moment they want to focuse more on Shores Fly-Opera.
This got also confirmed by Doug Adams, to whom I talked (or better, mailed...).

I had higher expectations for this one after the first 89' Batman (which is good but is like a jingle collection), but what I've heard was a kind of JNH remix for AVP by Tyler, brassy themeless action filler. I believe this is mostly because of Zimmer, many tracks on the PotC have the same weakness.

Well, considering the soundclips imply a collection of the Batman Begins "highlights", peppered with that wailing siren and some Dent, a loud "PASS" seems more than likely.

As if I'd actually regain some respect with you if I bought the album ...

Because I'm anything but a MV/RC kinda guy. I didn't like the last one much and I expect more of the same here. But I'm hearing a more dismal and dark score than the last go-around so far, so after I see the movie I *may* get the album. But I'm still unlikely to be convinced.

And a big "thank you" to Basil. That helps me out.

Yeah, except why are you checking on clips for a score you don't like/won't buy? Seriously, why do you devote your energies to writing in threads about music you hate? It's tough to see the logic; I assume you have a perfectly good and understandable explanation, though, so spell it out.

Contrary to your predetermined mind about my listening habits, I'm more than willing to give a score a chance, especially since I always was a huge fan of Batman.
On the contrary, not visiting threads about scores *I'm likely* to dismiss would mean a dismissal in advance of hearing the score, which wouldn't be fair - that should make sense even to you.

I've heard the clips exactly once, and would like to hear the ones I haven't heard yet, is that an explanation transparent enough for you?

Why am I even justifying myself ...?

I've read numerous comments about the Dark Knight possibly being the best film of the year and even remarks about one of the best of the decade. Are the expectations by most people really that enormously high, or is the fanbase just loudly voicing its opinions?

I've really tried to keep my expectations reasonable, but truth be told, I've never anticipated a new movie more than this one. I'm staying away from the buzz very diligently though in order to prevent any spoilers. (I've never read a comic book in my life, so anything that happens in this trilogy is news to me. )
