Director Anthony Minghella, Dead at 54
    Source: Associated Press
    March 18, 2008

The Associated Press is reporting that filmmaker Anthony Minghella, who won an Oscar for his 1996 film The English Patient, has passed away at 54.

A spokesman said he suffered a brain hemorrhage at 5 a.m. Tuesday morning at Charing Cross Hospital in London, where he had undergone a routine operation on his neck.

The prestigious director known for films like The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain and most recently, Breaking and Entering, all with Jude Law, was recently filming an adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith's The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency and was scheduled to shoot a segment for the anthology New York, I Love You.

Thanks to him we have 3 excellent Yared scores...

Very sad... Very young for a director who had only begun to show us what he was capable of in a sense. I feel very sad for his wife.

I know he gets some flack and I've really only liked one of his films (The Talented mr. Ripley) but he was a very dedicated filmmaker who seemed to be heir-apparent to David Lean.

I hope that his legacy will be remembered. He was much too young.
